Hello,

I must have gone overboard with planning because with one week left to go I am beginning to question my dinner reservations under the DDP for one of our nights lol. We do not have park hopper and we are leaving the AK so I would like to try a resort restaurant.

Which would you choose for a family with kids age 2-8?

I can't decide between the following:
-Whispering Canyon (pro: where we are staying, con: food so-so)
-Ohana (con: can only get reservation at 9pm)
-1900 Park Fare (con: buffet, boring for the boy?)
- Kona Cafe (con: boring for kids?)
- Chef Mickey's (pro: Mickey and pals! con: buffet, been there before)

Thanks so much. I really need help deciding!:surfweb:

Any opinions out there?

Any opinions out there?

I'm a big fan of Whispering canyon at WL.... it's a lot of fun and the CMs are all in character and very interactive with the kids (they talk in "Old West" speak). I personally find the food there just fine. Where did you hear differently?

From your list my favorite it O'hana's for sure. I would NOT eat there at 9:00 at night though with children that age. At least for my children, dinner that late would be a recipe for disaster.
My girls loooooove Chef Mickey's for breakfast. They like it for dinner, but for some reason it didn't have that WOW factor it does for them like breakfast did (neither did the food)

Konas is good, not wonderful, not so much on fun.

We looooved 1900 Park Fare this past time. Our favorite meal besides O'hana's. The character interaction was WONDERFUL. The characters there are some of the best. Very entertaining and very interactive--great for a boy who you might question if he'd like.

All that said---I'd go w/ 1900 Park Fare--especially if you haven't tried it before. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. It was so much fun and the food was very fresh, delicious, and had a great variety.

Have fun on your trip!

Hi!
Thanks for your help. We went there last year and one of us got the stomach flu shortly after. I guess to be fair, the food was good but we remember what happened after more lol.

Wow - 40+ times to WDW...you are so lucky!

We did Ohana and 1900 with two 6 year olds boy/girl. I think the food was excellent at Ohana and the kids had a great time with Limbo and coconut races, plus they liked to watch them cook on the big grill.

I didn't care for the food too much at 1900, it was buffet style but my kids had a blast loading up on desserts. My son at that age still had fun meeting the characters but not as much as my daughter, she was awstruck when Cinderella came out and thought the stepsisters were hysterical.

We're going back this year and I'm definitely booking Ohana again.

Also, keep on calling to try to get a better time, people cancel at the last minute and something might open up in a week.

We wouldn't do Ohana at that time with little ones. We always enjoy Kona. We have done it many times and enjoyed it every time. Might not be as exciting as some of the others, but we have always had good food, and a little more relaxed meal here. This was the case even with a 17 month old along. We also like 1900 Park Fare, but if you already have character meals we would prefer Kona. I also think with young kids it is nice to have the food brought to you once in a while.

With the ages of your children I would do either Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Fare. We love 1900 Park Fare. The food has always been good and the characters are just hysterical!

I would eat at Whispering Canyon!! Its fun for the kids, and in my opinion the food is good!, plus its right where your staying!:)

Boma's in AKL great but no characters
Kona's was a great surprise for us as was best steak we have ever had at WDW but also no characters
Whispering Canyons is a hoot and fun place and be sure and order a large iced tea!!!
Then there is Rain Forest right out side AK (not on Disney dining plan) but is good and a lot of fun
