right i'm having a moan now!! :cool1:
i have been off work since May with sciatica. i did go back to school for 4 days and had to be signed back off because the pain was too much to bear.(i work with autistic children)
i have been on 11 tablets a day and there is still no sign of it ever going :confused3 I went back to the doctors yesterday, as the tablets i am on don't even touch the pain anymore, i think my body is now used to them after all theses weeks  he has now put me on diazepam :scared1: anyone else taken these??? i will try one tonight.
i have been to the back pain clinic and was advised to walk! no other exercises were mentioned.
I have been doing some of my own(thanks gilld :goodvibes ) but nothing is happening...
I now have only 4 weeks left of the hols to get myself sorted so i can get back to work, has anyone got any suggestions to help me :guilty:
all this time off has had one advantage.. i have been on dis-ing everyday!! the school i must say have been fantastic with me!!
thanks for listening :grouphug:

Have you considered a Chiropractor? They're not cheap but can be very helpful.

Hi :wave2:

some days i can hardly walk the pain is that bad :worried:

:dancer: hopefully this will be me in the next 4 weeks !!!

Hi Jeanette,

I get the occasional bout of Sciatica although not too seriously, thank goodness :)

My worst incidence was a couple of years ago and I was in agony for a couple of days due to it happening on the saturday of a bank holiday weekend  At the time I thought the problem was probably muscular as I had been lifting my golf bag at the time it happened. Rather than book to see my GP I contacted a local physiotherapist and I have to say he sorted me out wonderfully.

I had to spend a few days mostly lying on my front on the floor as well as doing a series of exercises every hour but I have to say that I was able to play in the county championships 10 days after the initial injury and hardly being able to walk.

I continue to do the exercises I was given every day and if my back feels a bit dodgy then I revert to lying on the floor on my front when I am watching TV or on the computer.

I would agree that a visit to a chiropractor is probably the best thing for you at this stage and I hope that he/she is able to work the wonders with you that my physio was able to do for me :teeth:

Good luck, let us know how it goes :)

Alan.

Don't panic about the Diazepam Jeanette!!!
With sciatica, a prolapsed disc is pressing on the nerve, causing pain. Diazepam is frequently prescribed for people with back problems as a muscle relaxant. This sometimes allows the muscles around the prolapsed disc to relax enough to allow the disc to go back into place and relieve the pain.

HTH :)

Alan, glad you sorted yours out! its a horrible kind of pain isn't it.hopefully i will be able to get back to normal soon!

Cath, i had visions of taking a diazapam tonight, and being found running naked down our street :rotfl:
the doc told me that it can send some people doolalee :teeth:
and knowing my luck......
at least its going dark outside now :rotfl:

Oh Jeanette :grouphug: I do feel for you. I had back problems earlier this year, I was in absolute agony and couldn't walk without a stick. My GP referred me to a chiropractor, luckily we have a chiropractic college in Bournemouth and the fees are much cheaper there than a clinic. Anyhow it turned out I had only damaged the muscles on my back so they healed themselves but because you get a complete body overhaul on your first visit the chiropractor found that I had extensive neck damage caused by horseriding falls when I was a child and these were probably causing my frequent migraines. After three visits and lots of clicks LOL, I can now turn my neck easily without having to turn my whole body and the migraines have gone, touch wood. It was the best £60 I have ever spent and I hope that your chiropractor can work the same magic for you too. :)

No adivce here Jeanette, just wanted to say hope you feel better soon :grouphug:

 Perhaps some physiotherapy might help, ask your doctor about it it, certainly helped me a few years ago, hydrotherapy is another option ? ;)
Know how you feel!! ;)

Thankyou all for your kind words and advice :grouphug:
the waiting list for physio here is rediculous, i have only a week or so to go til i see the chiropractor!

Hi!!
i managed to get into see the chiropractor a week early! i went today, well she has pulled me, pummelled me, cracked my back, pulled my toes, no problem with any of that as it wasnt painful and then...
she started to massage deep into the muscle of my upper left leg,(bum :p ) my god i was in tears it hurt so much! the muscles there are so stiff it was so painful. anyway, i now have to massage that area twice a day and make sure i really feel pain otherwise it wont work
i have exercises to do as well ,and i go back in 4 weeks!(for more torture!)
so hopefully i am now on the road to recovery!!
thanks all for your support :goodvibes
