HELP! Unverified buyer!

If someone is unverified, they just haven't given Paypal their checking account info. If an address is confirmed, it basically means the address they use with paypal is the same that their credit card bill is sent to. Because someone does not get verified does not mean they are not legitimate. I am unverified because I don't want to give anyone my checking account info on the internet. I may just be paranoid, but there are a lot of other people that feel like I do. Even if sites are secured, it isn't 100% protection that no one can get your information (heck, someone who works at paypal could take the info). I have had my credit card number stolen, and though it is a hassle, there never was any actual cash taken from me as I did not have to pay the charges. If someone messes with my checking account, it could cause a lot more problems because the money would actually be gone for a period of time, even if the bank eventually credits it back.

Can I say in my listing, "If you have an unconfirmed address, do not bid on my auction." ?

Yes, you can. I prefer to say that I will accept Paypal payments only from people with confirmed addresses, but I also accept money orders so they do have an option. I find that it is not uncommon for people to not know that their address is unconfirmed, or not understand how to confirm it. In those cases, I walk them through the confirmation process or ask that they send me a money order.

Does the USPS offer DC for shipping types other than Priority Mail? I've heard that having Priority as your only shipping choice tends to scare off buyers bc. of the high rates. Can you ship Parcel Post, for example, and get DC for a little extra?

If you download the free USPS shipping assistant from their site, you can print labels and get DC for 13 cents on first class and parcel post packages. Though your first class package must be at least 3/4" thick, I think - I've been known to shove a few packing peanuts in an envelope to achieve that! DC is free on priority mail packages if you use the shipping assistant or print your labels or buy postage at www.usps.com/clicknship.

This thread can easily upset the occasional Ebay purchaser like myself. I can assure you that I am not a shifty buyer but I never intend to get verified with Paypal if I can help it and I always prefer the shipping address to be my work address because no one is at home to get deliveries. I, like Aidensmom, do not want to give my private checking info to Paypal. It is not worth it. I hope the OP gathers enough positive experiences to feel good about EBay soon :flower:

I'm not verified through Paypal and have no plans to do it either. But I feel strongly about the confirmed address - it's hard to know who the shifty buyers are and are not. But just as I have the right to require a confirmed address with Paypal payments, you have the right to pass my auction over and bid on one that accepts an unconfirmed address. Everyone has to make their own decisions about what works for them!

That does sound much better!

Thanks. I am learning so much here. 13 cents is certainly worth the extra piece of mind.

I hope I didn't offend you. I know that there are "shifty" buyers out there and wanted to know if unverified was a red flag. I've now learned that it is NOT.

I'm so glad to have the BB to turn to for questions such as these. I have the "eBay Bible" in front of me but you can't find all the answers in there.

Just wanted to throw this out there for those who are afraid to give a checking acct # online. I completly understand. I opened what I call my "dead end" account. It's a free checking acct that I keep less than $50 in. I use it whenever I have to link anything online to a bank account. So far I've used it for paypal, AmeriTrade and ING. It is not linked in any way to our personal checking or savings accounts.

I'm not a "verified" user either. I always pay by credit card. It looks like to be verified paypal makes a small deposit to your checking (??) account to make sure the numbers etc are correct. I didn't want to do that. But I always pay promptly.
ditto from me.. I am not verified because I will not give them my checking account number. I don't mind giving a credit card number because in the event there was a scam or something.. I would only be liable for the first $50 if that... if anyone got my checking account number...then I would be wiped out... :Pinkbounc my checks could end up bouncing like the pink smiles... I will not give my checking account numer to them... they can keep me "unverified"... my shipping address if "verified" that just means that my credit card billing address is the same as the ship to address...

I feel the exact same way. In the last three weeks I've been ordering ALOT of pins from e-bay at disneyauctions.com. My address is the same as my credit card billing info, but I am not verified and have no intention of becoming verified. I'm not giving out my checking account information to anybody.

Because I'm buying alot from the same few buyers my numbers are not real high (only 28), but if someone reads the feedbacks they all say pretty much the same thing as far as being a quick payer and I've been giving positive feedback as soon as I receive my order. If that doesn't satisfy a seller then tough, just credit the price back to PayPal, and don't send me whatever I won, but no one is getting my checking account info.
