I'm only 2 points short for the 11 month priority for our family vacation May 2019. I realize I can rent up to 24 points from member services, but they can only be used at the 7 month window. For the number and type of rooms needed I really need the 11 month window. I have been a long time member here, but I post rarely and I do not meet the requirements for posting on the rent/trade board. Are there any other reputable rental sources that would be willing to do a transfer this small?

If this post violates the Disboards rule, just delete/lock this thread. I just don’t know what to do. I intentially did not name the resort in hopes that no violation has occurred.

Thank you.

I think you will be very challenged to find anyone to transfer 2 points. I would just book all but the last night on that room, and do a DVC rental for a one-night stay for the last night.

Are you 2 points short even with borrowing from the next UY? I really want to be someone who banks points, but I am always borrowing! If you will still be 2 points short with borrowing, then I agree with the previous poster about renting one night and just leaving those other points in the next UY and don't borrow them. Member services can link your rooms together so that you don't have to switch during your stay.

I just wanted to add that you can always transfer in more points than you need because they are bankable. For example: you see someone looking to transfer 100 points with a March 2019 UY, you buy them, use the ones you need and bank the rest into March 2020. This might save you from having to borrow some as well. After you do all of this, you can probably find a use for those extra points or else you can rent them out.

You do NOT need to meet posting requirements to reply to a thread that is offering points for rent or transfer on the Rent/Trade Board.

New threads requesting a reservation or transfer are not allowed, though.

We don't know the resort, room type, or specific dates. Is the OP sure that they will need home resort priority to book the last day? May is not exactly high demand. Why not book everything except the last day then wait it out for the 7 month date and book the last day through MS?

Maybe, but I hope the OP keeps this thread visible.

If this were a year ago that’s exactly how many points I had to let expire. So I would have been able to help then. There might be others like me whose points are expiring, but now. :)
Were those banked points? You can't transfer banked points, so you're looking for someone who has 2 points stranded in their current use year. That shouldn't' be a common scenario. Someone would have had to change a reservation to something that required fewer points after their banking deadline (or horribly mismanaged their points).

Thank you to all who replied. I have been intentionally vague about the details so this thread is not closed. Here are a few more details that I think will not break the rules:

I am booking a two bedroom and two studios simultaneously. We have a family of 11 with adult children and grandchildren. We want all the adults to have a private bedroom. So we need 4 bedrooms. We are booking the two bedroom so we have a place to gather. The second week in May 2019 for 7 nights are the dates. I will be banking 2018 and borrowing 2020 points to make this happen. I have no more points to draw from. I have been responding to posts on the rent/trade board but the amount is too small to garner interest. One of our home resorts, the one I need points for has exceptionally high demand. I have been monitoring the 7 month window for some time and there has been spotty or no availability at 7 months. I realize I could waitlist for the room, but with such a complicated trip I really would rather not chance that.

I think I have found a solution. We are splitting the week between two resorts. So instead of 4 nights at the resort where we are short we will stay 3 nights there and stay 4 nights at the resort with lower point cost. That way I can book everything at the 11 month window.

IMHO this is a flaw/lapse in the Disboards policy...not to be able to request or offer minimal points for transfer without having to jump through the hoops necessary to post on the rent/trade board. I understand fully the need for restrictions when larger point amounts are being exchanged. But we are talking minimal amounts of points and money here. I have also been in a position of having less than 5 points left with nowhere to use them. I would happily have transferred them to someone else. Ok, rant over.

doing the split stay sounds like a good idea.

The only other thing I could think of would be for you to transfer enough points to cover what your 2018 and 2019 points don't cover, and that way you wouldn't have to borrow any 2020 points. Presumably you are working with about 225 points per UY? If so, I would try and transfer in any amount up to 225. yes -- it's an upfront cost -- but you can offset that by renting your points later.

Option 2 is quite a bit more hassle though -- so I'd likely stick with your plan of staying at the cheaper point resort one more night to avoid the issue altogether.

Keep in mind points that are already banked can't be transferred. So if someone had 5 points leftover that are going to expire, that would mean they've either already been banked (and therefore can't be transferred) or the user forgot to bank them in time. I'm not sure how often someone forgets to bank 5 points.

Not to mention, I'd be willing to be MS would grant a one time exception and bank those orphaned points. I know they're not supposed to, but they've bent the rules similarly for me in the past (unborrowed points after I got a new contract).

if a split stay is possible, you could also book everything at your desired resort minus the one night (presumably the studio) and book that night at the other resort. Then try to get the desired resort for that last night at 7 months.
If you don’t get it you still have a room and only one couple will have to split stay.

Ah good point. Maybe. Can’t recall right now. I figured two points since 09 was ok. But could also have been a situation of borrowing for a stay that got changed etc and two native UY points getting stranded with no way to use them with anything else. I remember there being nothing to do with them for our plans at all.

I've been very successful at booking what I can and then adding the night when the 7-month window arrives.

Ask DVC reservation I thought I read they will rent you some points not a large amount if so you may rent those 2 points

Thank you for your suggestions. I would rent the two points from Disney, except they can only be used at 7 months. (Sigh). I may try to change at 7 months, but with needing multiple rooms, it is a bit more complicated.
