Recently i moved into my own condo and have been doing my laundry myself. Im noticing large patches kinda peachy orange throughtout my bathtowels. Does anybody knows what Im doing wrong? Seems like it only happens with certain colors..thanks for any advice!

If they are darker colored towels, such as beige or brown, I get these spots when someone uses bleach to clean and then dries their hands without washing with soap first Some acne treatments will bleach too, if someone uses them and doesn't wash with soap afterwards.

If they are white or very light colored towels, I had rust spots sometimes from the washing machine at my last house, usually if I'd leave them in the washer too long.

Are they colored towels? It could be residual bleach in the machine. I used to wipe it out whenever I realized someone had done a white wash before me.

Or if they are white towels it could be rust?? Is it just on your towels?

It doesn't say where you are from..but it almost sounds like you have rust spots on your towels..either from the inside of your washer or from the water itself! Try some OXY Clean if it's white towels..that should take out the spots..if it's on colored ones, you may have to use a color remover safe for colored stuff..good luck!

Thanks guys!! Im from CT...dont know how old the washer is, like i said i just moved in. Its only my towels that it happens on...the khaki colored ones and the blue ones..they arent dark colors. I talked to my sister and she said it has happened to her too at her house. Ive heard of proactive causing it but i havent been using that since ive been here.

This has happened to me many times, and it doesn't seem to matter where I buy the towels or what washing machine I've used. I just deal with it. My roommate had this happen to her and returned them to the store that she purchased them from as they were brand new. Sorry no suggestion, but I wonder if it could be something that was residual from the store or maker.

We have had this on our darker colored towels, definately not anything to do with bleach on ours--the spots are large like where you would dry your face. We thought it was from the oily skin/hair type or acne cleaning products our older teenagers use. It has happened on darker pillowcases as well ....

I dont know guys..maybe i have to start using really dark colored towels..lol! Seems to be no real reason this is happening..thanks for the info! Glad its not only me..thought i failed laundry 101! ;)

i've been having this problem too. i'm dumbfounded as to why it's happening. i thought it was because i use fabric softener with my towels. i never use bleach so i don't think that's the reason. i don't use any acne products, so that's out too.

I was going to ask if you use Proactiv. ;)

I bought some really nice, really expensive towels to match my bathroom in both dark and light purple and all but the light purple is ruined.

Dang Proactive. They should put a warning on the box! And of course now I can't find the same color so I have to turn the stained side to the wall.

That's the only thing I know of that would make the peachy stains like that.

I, too, have purchased some expensive fluffy towels that were ruined by the bleaching from face/shower soaps. It really ticks me off too. There were no warning labels on the face/bath soaps that bleaching could occur, but I know that is what caused the towels to discolor. These are not "acne" type soaps but do contain exfoliate-type properties.

It seems all the new towels are not colorfast at all. In the good old days they were and you could even bleach the colored towels. Now, not so much. I no longer use bleach to wash towels--or sheets for that matter.

I think khaki color is the least benzoyl peroxide safe dye made. I bet it is something you are putting on your face. Even if you rinse your hands, some remains and it bleaches the dye. I have so many towels that color...khaki and peachy patched. :(
