Hi
We have recently returned from another trip to beautiful Florida and this time we actually took time out to visit one of the DVC resorts, we are now very seriously tempted.....Albeit initially a little expensive, I would be very interested to talk to other UK purchasers of DVC to here their experiences

We would be looking to purchase something for a fortnight Oct/Nov and I believe we would be looking at something around 200 points, I am however still a little confused with the costs - are there any hidden costs like tax etc

Anyway thank you in advance for your advice
Sharon

We would love to help.

The rules are the same for US members as they are for our fellow UK members. The only cost other than the initial fee is yearly dues. These dues run around $4 (+/-) per point depending where you purchase your interest at. (I think that is slightly less than 2 pounds?) This money is used to pay for upkeep, property tax, staffing, etc. Of course, you will still have to buy your park tickets, but we just got news that DVC members will be getting a discount on Annual Passes. So if your holiday here at WDW last for more than 5 or 6 days, an Annual Pass would be perfect.

You will probably get some UK perspective here on the DVC Board, but I expect you will get more on the the UK DVC board. It is a place for our fellow UK members to talk about the special issues that affect those traveling across the Atlantic.

Hope to give you a big "Welcome Home" soon.

(Okay I fixed the exchange conversion - I knew it was a multiple of two - just went in the wrong direction :) :) )

Hi there,

Four years ago my wife and I chatted to a DVC Guide at a stall in Epcot, and we did not believe what they were saying. So we did the tour and still thought there must be a catch and decided to return home to the UK. We did our homework and there is no catch. A one time payment then annual dues thats all. With the exchange rate it is excellent value.

We bought 175 points in July last year. Our home resort is BCV. We returned earlier this month from our first trip home and are delighted with the purchase we have made. DVC purchase is an even better proposition for UK purchasers now with the current
$/£ exchange rate.

Not sure what 2005 annual dues are going to be yet but $4 per point is about £2.20ish.

Can't think of any obvious disadvantages.

Sorry forgot to mention you become instantly popular with all your family and friends, our friends thought it was such a good idea that they have also purchased points, one couple 282 and another 252.

Best decision you will ever make.

SSR dues are going from $3.80 pp US in 2004 to $3.82 in 2005.

Just to let you know there are some UK Boards HERE which include a UK DVC Board :)

DVC was the best thing that we did :teeth:

Hello Sharon and Mark

Another happy UK DVC member here. By the time we bought (our first lot of points that is ;) ) in 1996 we had already been to Florida at least 10 times and knew we were not going to get tired of it in time. And we never have.

Unlike the Americans, who are able to pay their dues monthly, we have to pay ours in one go in January, but that apart, I can't think of a single disadvantage for us.

Like you, I've just returned and the good thing about going in November is that flights are at their cheapest at that time - and the weather is usually great. :D
