:confused3We are arriving in Orlando May 4th, in anticipation of a Disney Cruise on the 7th. So we have the 4th and 5th to hang out in Orlando. We have decided not to do WDW, and are hoping to keep within a reasonable budget. My 22 yo daughter and friend will be with us, so we would like to save money and share a room: myself and husband..my daughter and friend. I am leaning towards Universal for the two days as I think we will spend money if we are just hanging out in a hotel and going out to eat, or shop. So what hotel? or resort? My husband is retired military and AAA, so might find some discounts. Any suggestions on places to stay, or discounts for Universal?

Thanks. I am checking out the link :lovestruc

I know you are looking at Universal resorts, but I just wanted to make sure that you knew that there are some Military discounts (including retired Military) at WDW resorts now for your dates:

Save up to 40% at select Disney Resorts for Members of the U.S. Military

Special savings on select Walt Disney World Resort hotels! Active and retired U.S. military personnel can take up to 40% off when booking travel dates prior to September 28, 2011.

For information regarding Military Promotional Tickets or to make room reservations, military personnel may call (407) 939-7830 or contact participating U.S. military base ticket offices.

*This offer is valid for stays most nights now through October 1, 2011. Discount is not valid April 17 – April 30, 2011. This offer is for active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard. Advance reservations required. The number of rooms allocated for this offer is limited. Minimum length of stay requirements may apply for Friday or Saturday arrivals. Savings based on non-discounted price for the same room. Valid Military ID will be required upon check-in. No group rates or other discounts apply.

There are some packed-full-of-information Universal Parks and Resorts forums here on the DIS that might help also:

Have a wonderful vacation! :yay:

What if you rented a house at a reasonable price? The advantage here is that you would have the pool and pool deck for lounging etc. This can be a good 22 yr old activity. :)
The downfall here is that you can get hit with cleaning fees for short stays.

Might I suggest Millers Ale House for when you go out to eat? Really fun atmosphere, good food and great price on drinks!

If you go to Universal, remember that there is discounts on almost everything there with AAA - I think food, shopping and tickets? Double check the exact discounts (google).

Enjoy!

I would look for something with at least a separate bedroom and a sleeper sofa. I assume your daughter's friend is female and I would think she would be uncomfortable sharing a bedroom with your husband. A Homewood Suites would fit the bill or you might be able to get a 2 bedroom unit at Residence Inns.
