Help! Time change with National rental

Hi all,

I just changed my flights, and now need to move up the pick up time of my National rental by about 4 hours (I am still picking it up on the same day). It will not change the amount of time I have the car because my flight home was also moved up by 4 hours, so I will have the car for the same amount of time.

Do I need to contact National and change the pickup time? I am afraid of a rate change, and I am sure that, since it is Memorial day weekend, the rate will not go lower.

I wouldn't worry about it. I had a reservation for noon one time and picked it up at 8:00am with no problem.

We had the same thing happen to us for our trip in January. I had booked our car for noon and we missed our connection and we weren't landing until about 5 pm. I called the 800 number on my ressie and the girl I talked to said she'd note it on my reservation. I asked if the rate would stay the same and she said that it would, that nothing changed except the time. We had no problems when we finally arrived.

Can't you just modify your reservation on line? I have never done it ...but there is a spot to do that.

The price is for the 24hr period. Just change the time online to cover any late penalties.

Simply go to National.com and type in your confirmation number. You can change your times and modify your reservation. The website will give you the option to keep the old ressie or change to the new one. You will see them side by side before you chose. If you are just changing times and they actual rental period stays the same, the price will stay the same.

The problem with modifying the National res online is that often National will change the rate on you when you do that. Since this is for Memorial day weekend, and the rate is higher (and in fact, it won't accept my coupon any longer) I am afraid of messing up everything.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge as to whether modifying online lately with National?

I Know First Hand, I Put In The Wrong Time When I Made The Reservations.

My Time Was Midnight, & I Picked It Up At 8pm. No Problem, No One Said Anything To Me.

Just Call Them, & Tell There Is A Change, & You Will Be Four Hours Late.

Don't Change Your Reservations. From What I Have Learned About Rent A Cars Companies, They Have To Hold It Up To 6 To 12 Hours.

Ask This When You Call.

In the past, I've just phoned them and told them I needed to change the time. They said "ok" and did it. Took about 30 seconds. I checked the reservation online a few minutes later and the time was changed but everything else was the same. Like others, I'm afraid to modify it online because it might give me a higher rate.

I always modify online with no problems. You go through the modify process and it will show you your old ressie and the new one side-by-side and then you have a choice of which one to take. If you are simply modifying the time and the actual rental time does not change, your rate will not change. I did this with no problem on my last trip for 3 different parties, all of which were using the EA.

just for anyone who wants to know, I modified my ressie too. With mine I was adding time on because we got a later flight home. We are dropping off about 7 hours later than we were. This did add a day on but my much lower than the rate being offered presently remained the same. Just the one day was added on at my prior lower rate. Maybe this was the exception and not the rule but it did work for me. Never hurts to try b/c as other stated you do have the option to back out.
