HELP!!!!!!!This ever happen to anyone?

My mom decides today not to go on the cruise in 4 weeks. We can't cancel her out because it was on her credit card and we would have to re-book with today's rates (my daughter is in her cabin and there are no 4 person cabins left). I'm hoping she decides to come, but if she doesn't what does DCL do? TA said since we already paid for 1st. 2nd & 3rd persons there shouldn't be an additional charge just to tell them she couldn't make it. Has anyone ever done this before? I'm a bit nervous.

Sorry your mom decided not to come at what is relatively the "last minute" in the cruise world. Not sure I understand the arrangements though. You said your daughter was booked into her room? So you have a cabin for the rest of your family but not for your dd? How many of you are there, and with who in what cabin?

If she doesn't show, she doesn't show......they won't turn the rest of you away as long as she is willing to keep the room paid for.

What a shame to waste her already paid for ticket. Have you anyone either friend or family member that wants to go in her place? I think there is a minimal charge to have DCL change the name on the reservation and have the documents re-issued.

was she the only adult in that room? i do not know if DCL will do anything if she does not show and she is the only adult listed in the room....

i agree with the previous poster...call dcl to see if you can switch the names on the ressie with someone else...i am sure you could find someone who would like a "free" trip on DCL!

My family consists of DH, DD(8), DS (5) and myself. My sister and mom also went with us last year on the cruise. Thanks to hurricane Jeanne we got 50% vouchers. We put my DD in their room so we could pick staterooms near each other rather than wait to see where the GTY put us. Believe me, I will not do this again! We were told a few weeks ago when my mom hinted about canceling that it would cost about $900 to switch DD into our cabin. Called TA to cancel them and do the switch but DCL said nope - no cabins available. DCL did change out my sister for a friend but my mom has to stay on ressie because she put her cabin on her credit card. TA said she was told by DCL if mom cancelled her card would be credited, we'd lose the money we put down on DD cabin and we'd have to buy a cabin at today's rate. Can't really afford to do that. Like I said, I hope she at least changes her mind. We had to find an adult quickly to fill the room or DD wouldn't have a place on the ship. So thats where we are. We'll be at the pier but mom wll not. TA said we were very lucky that they swapped names on the ressies because we used the voucher and should've be charged more than the $35.00 name change fee.

She did not purchase the travel insurance. She is due 1/2 of her money back if we cancel her out, but we can't or we will lose the whole reservation and have to start from scratch. DH and I will be giving her the money she would've rec'd from DCL. She is not going because my sister (the one who was going on the trip) is mad at me and my mom has decided to pick sides - guess who's side she's on. I feel like i'm in high school all over again. very childish behavior on their parts. The only ones losing out are out DD and DS because they don't understand why meemom doesn't want to go anymore.

Wow, I am so sorry you have to deal with this. It sounds like you are going to handle it in the only financial way possible.

I hope this does not come out wrong, but based on circumstances it sounds like you may end up having a better time with just your dh and kids. Once you all get on the ship the bad taste from this will be obscured by the Magic of Disney and you'll be getting on with the business of making the lifetime memories that a Disney cruise offers.

I hope that you & your family end up having a fantastic cruise!!! I refuse to make vacation plans depending on anyone else ... including family. I want to take a vacation to get away from the world's BS...not take it with me.

How about this if you can't find another adult for your DD's Room.

You have two kids and two adults, along with two rooms.

move your name onto DD's room (Your mothers room).

This way an adult is in the room with your child.

This leaves DH & DS in one room, DW & DD in another.

We have this exact configuration on our two cabins.

Like many rooms, attendants don't care who actually sleeps in the rooms.

So put DS & DD in the spare room, DH & DW in the other.

PS: Best path may be to say nothing to dcl, and just say "Ooops, mom missed the boat.

The ship will then sail without her.

"Maybe she can meet up with us in the next foreign port". I bet she won't.


This is the "Better to ask forgiveness than permission." system, which works amazingly well.

Tracy, what a mess! I didn't catch this on our cruise thread. I remember you asking a while back about switching an adult for one no longer going, but this sounds more recent than that. What a headache.

I think it might be a good idea to do the one adult, one child per room as the previous poster indicated. Keep us posted!
