Hi. Hope you can help this DVC rookie with a question. We are planning a small family/friend reunion for WDW in 2023 for our welcome home trip to Riviera. To meet our goals of booking a few rooms for a few nights we’ll have to dip into a few of our 2023 (DEC UY) points to book those rooms. We are considering doing a split stay and booking another resort perhaps at WDW (we like Saratoga and feel that it has good 7 month booking options) or we might stay down the road at Universal to do a few days there before our stay at Riviera.

My question is with regards to borrowing. I believe I will have no issues using some borrowed points for that first booking at 11 months. Will I have any issues using more borrowed points at the 7 month window (as long as I’m not above that 50% threshold (I won’t be)?

Example (using simple numbers). I have a 50 point contract and have banked 2021 points to 2022 (DEC UY).

Trip in June 2023 will need 109 points. I’m still okay as I can pull 9 points from 2023 DEC UY points. I now decide to stay at SSR for a few nights at the start of my trip and this requires another 11 points. If I go to book this in December of this year, will I have an issue?

Thanks for helping this new member :)

Using your example of a 50-point contract, you can borrow up to a total of 25 points. It doesn't matter whether you borrow them in one big chunk or several smaller bits.

Just to add that some accounts have a borrowing issue online, so you could end up needing to call.

Some people can do it once, but have to call for a second one. Some never have an issue,

You will be eligible but just be aware you could end up needing to call.

Good to know! Thanks for the help Sandisw and Marionnette. I’m going to call for the Welcome Home booking as I hear they make it easy for that first booking and might as well get that perk. But or the potential second booking for the few days before going to have to possibly ninja that at 7 months out (hopeful for SSR).

The issue does crop up much more often with resale points than direct points (even though people have had an issue borrowing from direct contracts), so you may be lucky and not experience it with the direct contract!

Or, by then the borrowing restriction will be lifted and the website will go back to how it was before that went into place when there was no online glitch for anyone!

If I really had to I'm sure I can transfer some of my VGC points to the RVA contract but really don't want to do that :) I agree on going back to allowing 100% borrowing would be awesome!

To avoid confusing those just learning, members don’t transfer points from one contract to another. They transfer points from one membership to another. Contracts that are titled exactly the same and have the same UY are in the same membership (and points from different home resorts can be combined at 7 months by simply checking them off when booking). Contracts that are in different UY or that are titled differently (e.g., parents only vs. parents + kids) are in separate memberships and can’t be combined without transferring from one membership to another, even if they’re the same home resort.

Yep I'm learning. My VGC points are a different use year so will be a different membership.
