Our extremely curious 4 month old puppy loves to see what we have up there on those counters. She props her humongous feet up on the cabinets and takes a look around. She'll take anything she can get her little paws or teeth on. Just this morning, she took DS homework that he has worked on it all week and it's due TODAY! She then preceded to rip it into about 30 unrecognizable pieces. I tried to piece it back together and tape it but there were chunks missing - I guess I'll see those tonight or tomorrow on her "potty" walks  . I called the teacher and told her that "The dog ate his homework" she said he could redo it, not something a 6 y/o wants to do. Do any of you have a dog who is a "counter surfer" and what do you do, I tried spraying her with the sink sprayer, but she's part golden retriever and enjoyed that game.

I never tried it, but have read about a way to break your dog from taking things off the counter. Take a piece of raw hamburger and load it up with tobasco sauce, and leave it on the counter where you know the dog will take it. Since he won't like it (unless you have a very odd dog), it is supposed to help break them of this bad habit. You may have to do it a few times for it to sink in.

She'll learn, we have a Golden who actually ate a permission slip from the teacher, of course she didn't believe my son until I told her it was true.

I tried spraying her with the sink sprayer, but she's part golden retriever and enjoyed that game.

LOL LOL Our Golden used to run into the shower while the kids were getting in there. Then he plopped his butt down on the bottom of the shower and I would have to drag him outta there. He LOVES water.

LOL, goldens are so adorable. :) We've had a few incidents like that too. Usually I do tape it together and send it in with a note and the teacher does give them time to redo it.
I've been pretty lucky, my dog won't get anything off tables, even if it's the coffee table. Wait a minute, I just remembered the pineapple upside down cake she stole. The whole cake. But that's been it, as far as I know.

Use "bitter apple" spray instead. And then train her. For a while put nothing on the tables that she can be interested in. Then watch her and train her. Put something that smells good on it, wait for her to start to jump, say "no", and spray the bitter apple. When all fours are on the ground, give her a treat.
When you see she doesn't jump, especially when she's interested, give her a treat. Keep doing that and it should help.

My dd's puppy loves the taste of bitter apple.

My puppy is too small to counter surf, but my kids have a tendency to leave their homework out and he's nibbled on their homework too many times. They hate to redo it, but they're slowly learning about putting it up.:teeth:

LOL! My ds's cat shredded his homework when he was in fifth grade:p . Luckily he'd already told his teacher about his cat's shredding habit so she allowed him to redo it.

I had a sheltie once that ate wood screws off a table.

I have heard that if you put small mouse traps on a surface that when the dog sets them off the snap noise scares them. They shouldn't getted pinced by them though.

LOL! My puppy did the same to DS's REPORT CARD a few weeks ago. I signed it and e-mailed his teacher to let her know that the dog really did it!

LOL!
One day my brother was studying out of his brand new $70 college chemistry textbook--he left it open on the table for a little while and when he came back the cat had totally shredded about 100 pages of it! So it's not just dogs that like to mess up valuable paper things! :)

This is our dog when she was a baby eating my son's home work. Instead of rescuing the homework I took a picture an emailed the teacher.
