Help teenage son needs a suit!

Thanks for all the tips. We ended up with a blue blazer, pair of dress pants2 shirts, a tie and a belt for around $250. Not great but not terrible either. We ended up finding it all at the Brooks brothers outlet. First stop we hit and when he found stuff he liked we went with it.

I figure we'll do a suit in the spring for jr. Prom(if he goes)

Thats not terrible actually. Brooks Brothers has great quality and if you felt like it, you could always resell those. Believe it or not, I think my son has finally stopped growing for a bit, so you may find you will get more use out of it than you think.

another vote for JC Penneys...DS has this set

He really likes it as far as having to wear a suit goes, and looks trensy, not too "office-like"

best thing? He grew before he ever wore the jacket and since the tags were still on they exchanged it for his needed size...8 months after we purchased it! He just got longer pants, which were so easy to do since they already match the jacket. This brand runs slim...my DS pants are a 29/34...jacket a 34...not a perfect fit as he is so thin, but the best we found for "off the rack" and that type of flexibility. Also , if you have made a Penneys purchase recently, check your receipt, if you fill out the survey you will get 15% off your next purchase...heck, just buy a clearance pari of socks or something to get the discount!

Watch Kohl's sales! Last year I got my son a beautiful suit coat...originally $210...for $30! They didn't have "matching" pants, but a black suit is a black suit...it was easy enough to find black dress slacks to match!

I don't think anyone has suggested this yet -
But go to a BIG Dry Cleaner in your area (living in NJ I bet there are some big ones around) and ask if they have any abandoned property (clothes) for sale.
While it may be a long shot they sell things for a little more than the outstanding balance on the item.
AND - while it is used.... you know it's clean!

Good luck!

Thanks for this information. Heading out today to look for a suit for my son.

We bought my son's suit at jc Penney. I had a 15% coupon from the Penney's online survey. I think the jacket & pants were less than $120 with tax. We already have a white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and belt. I will need to buy him a new tie for winter formal. I was going to try to match his dates dress but she is wearing lavender. So I think I will just get a black tie that he can reuse in the future.

This is an awesome thread.
