help stinky dishwasher all of the sudden

i recently changed to a
'green" soap for my dishwasher

now it stinks
help what should i try

My husband repairs dishwashers. Just go to walmart or like store and get "lemon shine". The first time do it with out dishes, then do it with your dishes. He uses it all the time in ours. Smells great and No Spots on you dishes. The same for smelly garbage disposils, throw a lemon or orange in every now and then.

How old is it?
Do you rinse before your wash?
Do you use Jet Dry/Rinse aid?

This recently happened to me as well. Ours has this smell of like.....bacteria. Like when flowers sit in a vase to long and the water smells from the bacteria. DH is going to pull it out and check all the hoses this weekend.

Have you checked your trap lately? My parents learned the hardway about that one last year...

My dishwasher is not the greatest, but it came with the house so I have to cope. I think of it more as a dish sanitizer - it doesn't deal with food being left on the plates, and since it's DD's job to load the dishwasher, you know corners are often cut when no one's looking. I think that there's a drainage problem, but I'm afraid to take it apart and see.

To cope, once a month or so I wipe down the inside with a damp rag, focusing on the seals. Then I dump a cup of white vinegar in the bottom and run it empty. It seems to keep things cleaner and fresher smelling.

I saw a tip once that said to run dry lemonade mix through the cycle a couple of times. This helps get the build up out of the hoses and fixtures. Half a lemon tossed down the garbage disposal will do the same thing for your sink.

the trap was checked last week
its about 5 years old
i did wipe junk near the seal but i do that regularly
they ran out of dishwasher soap and i just picked up what was left at walmart
i will try lemi shine
but will do vinegar today

You can run it empty with baking soda that worked yesterday on my stinky dishwasher

I ran an empty cycle of bleach and that helped ours

This happens to ours and we never even use the thing. Is lemon shine a brand? I'm going to Walmart tomorrow and I want to pick this up. Thanks!
