HELP!!! Spend money on AP or other halloween events???

Another vote for the APs, with the strong suggestion/advice to do the math (!) before purchasing.
As far as Halloween events go, Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is showing "The Nightmare Before Christmas" in 4D until 10/31. This is always super fun and not super expensive. You can find more information on the El Capitan website. The Hollywood Bowl will have "NBC" live in concert (showing the movie with the actors who did the voices singing the songs live on stage with an orchestra) this weekend -- this is a really fun event. Tickets range from super expensive to not expensive. Be sure to ask at the ticket booths about MHP tickets first thing in the morning on the party dates while you are in CA. Sometimes there are day of party tickets made available at the booths. It can't hurt to ask.

Do you guys think if i got the signature passport they would change the blockout dates on that one?

Additonally I was only going to get 1 signature and 1 deluxe, because i only need the one that includes the parking once right? and i figured we would be planning our trip to avoid the deluxe blackout dates either way. Has July ALWAYS been blacked out completely or is that because of star wars land? i swear it wasnt a few months ago
Do you have to have a car on all of your trips? If you can skip a car and just Uber you wouldn’t need parking so could just get two Deluxe. Also, I’m not sure what the charge for parking is at your hotel but having a car could potentially double ding you on parking.

Definitely do the math before making your decision. Do you belong to Sam's Club? They sell Disney giftcards at a slight discount and you can pay for your passes that way.

Not sure if this would interest you, but Stan Lee's LA Comicon in the LA Convention Center is the weekend of October 26.

Wicked Lit is something my coworker would go to and she loved the event.

my plan was to buy 5 day passes on LMT and upgrade those which it think saves a little bit over a hundred bucks and then buy 2 gift cards from sams club that save me an additional 30 buckss\

With all the budgeting and scrimping for your trip, remember to round way up with your numbers. Always assume things will be more expensive, not less! Better to have some money left over as seed for your next trip than not to have enough because you budgeted short.

I have found US and Knott's to be big disappointments compared to Disneyland. I know it depends on what you like but the last time I went to US, I said I'd go once when they expand Harry Potter and then I'll never go again. I know the Halloween Horror Nights are popular, but they also have really long lines to go through the mazes. Some people have waited over an hour to go through one maze.

I suggest getting the APs at the lowest price you need and then upgrade in the future if you need to.

Here's a list of stuff in the area that I found from Google if you want to do some other less expensive Halloween things: https://socalpulse.com/blog/2017/10/09/best-orange-county-halloween-events/

My 18 yo daughter and I went to DL last October. I thought it had lots of Halloween feel to it with all the pumpkins and decorations and characters dressed up in costume. She went to Knotts with some college a friends a couple of weeks ago. Their lines were crazy long, 2 hours, and she really didn't enjoy it much because it was so crowded.

My two cents, skip Knotts and US, buy the AP.

Do the math and make sure buying an AP would really save you money in the long run. Make sure you factor in things like airfare and hotel fees. Also, I would also consider getting one of the higher passes. Yes, they are super expensive, but they receive the most perks overall (parking, discounts, maxpass if you go for sig +). And make sure to pay attention to the park specific block outs.

If you go the other route and do Halloween specific activities, buy the express pass at Universal for Horror Nights. I went earlier this Halloween season, and the lines are ridiculous!! Like, worse than DL. The shortest line was the Stranger things maze at 75 minutes. Purge, Poltergeist, Monsters, Walking Dead, and Blumhouse were all 90-120 minutes. We did all the mazes with the express pass, except Halloween and that was because we were just too tired to continue and had to drive home. I had a lot of fun overall there, but again, we had the express pass. I'm sure I would've felt differently if I had to wait so long for a 2 minute maze.

I didn't realize Sig + included max pass. thats literally only 75 more dollars than the sig passort with maxpass added anyway ...hmmm

It’s $75 more if you are planning to add maxpass to the Signature pass. Honestly, that’s why I bought the signature + passport. I use maxpass all the time. And yes signature is only blocked for 2 weeks at the end of the year, but if I’m going to drop $999, I better have every single perk Disneyland can offer for passes...it didn’t so that’s why I got the higher one.

one thing i havent mentioned to you guys that i def should have is there is a 50% chance we move out there in the next 6 months regardless. We can both transfer our jobs its a matter of whether or not my salary will get increased to make up for cost of living increase.

So yeah. Think im def gonna do the APs

Anyone know when to expect the price increase?

Generally the price increase is in February but it could happen at any time. There will usually be rumors about price increases a couple months before they happen.
