Help... some history of DVC point costs.

Again, forgive me if I'm asking a question that gets asked all the time.

I know BCV is currently selling for $80 a point. I have heard mention that it may increse soon.

But what I'd like to know is, what did the Disney price start at way back in 1991?
... and how often has it gone up over the years?
Do increases generally coincide with new resorts being built?

March '94 - Announce Newport, CA plans
April '94 - $59 Increase in June announced
6/15/94 - Official date raised to $60.50
Nov. '94 -Approx. date raised to $61.50

March '96 - HHI Opens
May '96 - $62.75

I'm not sure if I've got the date for the $80 increase right.

Also, in the earlier days the point minimums were higher than 150. Also, the Newport, CA DVC never came to pass. The property has since been sold to Marriott.

Wouldn't you know that we purchased at OKW only a week AFTER the price was raised to $62.75. Based on current point prices, I'm not complaining.

The only thing that is missing is the reopening of OKW sales when they built the couple of new buildings. We bought OKW directly from Disney in August 2000 at $67 per point.

Has anyone else heard of a possible price increase? We're new members, so don't know how often they've raised prices, but this seems like awfully soon after the last increase in June to be contemplating raising prices again.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply a price hike was imminent. Just from memory I thought I saw speculation here on this board that when BCV sells out (likely sometime next year???) that prices will be raised prior to the pre-selling at the new DVC resorts at Disney Institute or Eagle Pines (if this one happens).

I also think its important to note that the BCV presale from Feb - May included an incentive with NO strings attached. $5 off/point or free hotel stay without having to give back first years points- so in effect they cost $70/point, actually a price reduction. Other good incentives have been offered but did require returning your first years points to DVD.
Also interesting to see no price increase from July 95-Jan 99. Wonder what factors influenced that. Even with 9/11 and economic downturns prices have managed to increase.
