We are booked at Coronado for August (at the request of friends that are traveling the same time), but the more I look at the set up...it is huge. What is a smaller resort?

POFQ I do believe is the smallest and it is a great resort.

While the grounds at CSR and CBR are expansive, they are manageable, and you can always pay for a preferred room. Otherwise, POFQ is the smallest. Only 1000 rooms.

POFQ is the smallest moderate resort. It's a very lovely and quaint resort. This resort is very compact. It has the boat ride to Downtown Disney.

I haven't stayed around Port Orleans since Dixie Landings (was that what it was called?) existed, did it just merge with Port Orleans? I remember how huge that place was, I hated how far we had to walk to get to the bus.

If you want to spend time with your friends, I suggest you keep your reservations. Try to get rooms in buildings near to each other's. Then you can share a breakfast, or a bus trip, or come back together from a dinner somewhere. It'll save a ton of time.

Yep. The original "Port Orleans" is now "Port Orleans French Quarter" (POFQ), and what was originally known as "Dixie Landings" is now "Port Orleans Riverside" (POR). Edit: To clarify, they still exist as 2 separate resorts (for booking), but are sisters/neighbors.

we need 2 rooms (4 kids 2 adults) so I do not want to pay $400 for preferred

We absolutely ADORE POFQ, NOT to be confused with POR. only ONE bus stop, and POFQ, while sharing busses with POR, is picked up and dropped off FIRST, only exception coming from Downtown Disney. We love that anything you need is less than a five minute walk from your room. Plus you can catch the boat to and from Downtown Disney. Ask for building 2 or 6 if memory serves me right, great locales. We would STILL be staying there, but we bought DVC @ Bay Lake Tower.

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!! POFQ is my favorite moderate resort. There are the obvious for those who do not like a widespread resort. POFQ is very compact with pathways that are so well manicured. The walk to all of the resort amenities from the furthest point is probably a 5 minute walk, if you dawdle. The boat will take you to DTD as well as POR where there is a TS restaurant that is very nice. There is also live entertainment in the bar area. It is a little weird to say "bar" though, because it is a family friendly area that has plenty of seating.

There are only 7 buildings with the lobby, gift shop, CS restaurant and pool in the middle. The bus does share with POR but I don't remember that it was inconvenient.

A couple of questions: How old are you kids, and is the pool an important part of your vacation? If the kids are older than say 5, and they spend a lot of time at the pool, stick with CSR. While I love POFQ the pool is small and better suited to very little kids.

If you don't want to pay for a preferred room at CSR, request to be in the Casitias section, building #4. That is where we were earlier this year, and it was a great location. There is a quiet pool right next door, and the first bus stop is right behind the building. It is also the first building not considered preferred, so you will be fairly close to the main building. Even my picky older sister loved our room location.:)

Port Orleans French Quarter is the smallest. But not too small, the size is perfect. That's one thing my family loves about this resort is the fact that there aren't a billion people rushing around all the time! No matter where your room is you are only a short walk from the pool, bus stop, lobby, and so on... :)

Port Orleans French Quarter is by far the smallest moderate resort. The others are all very large. Be aware that at times it does share buses with Riverside.

We LOVE French Quarter! the best building to stay in is #4. It's not preferred because it's not by the water but it is right by the bus stop and restaurant :D We stayed there and Caribbean Beach and I liked Caribbean but like Coronado, it's big so for that reason, I'd go back to FQ in a heartbeat!

I love both POFQ and CSR so either will be great. However I have been to CSR more times. When I went with my parents and the size was an issue this is how I handled it. I requested a room change at check in to be near The Dig Site pool. We were a short walk to pool and to bus. Then when we came back from parks I would get off at main building and eat there(0r pick up and walk it back). That way my walking was minimal. One trip we were in building 3 which was a longgggg walk to hot tub and back every day. I prefer buildings 6/7/8.

The grounds are so beutiful make sure to take it all in!

They are 11,9,8 & 8 Thanks

French Quarter is a very compact resort which has gorgeous landscaping and it is very easy to get around :yay: The boat to DTD is another real perk :woohoo:
