My 13 yr old has come down with what seems to be a wicked cold, but I wanted to get him checked, as his ears are itching, which is his precursor to an ear infection. I seemed to remember a clinic inside one of the drug stores. anyone know the name/location?

I think the closest location is a Centra Care that is run by Florida Hospital. It's near Downtown Disney.

12500 South Apopka Vineland Rd.
Orlando, FL 32836
Telephone
407-934-CARE (2273)

CVS has Minute Clinics, but the closet is in Kissimmee.
Inside CVS/pharmacy #2761
5308 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway
Kissimmee, FL 34746

Walgreens also has Take Care Clinics. The closest is:
12100 S Apopka Vineland Rd
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32836

My daughter had an ear infection at Disney one time. We asked the first aid station nurse at MK for a suggested clinic. The clinic even came and got us because we didnt' have a car.

I'm sure someone at the front desk can give you a suggestion too.

My son had pink eye while we were there in June. We went to a Centra Care, but drove to the location in Kissimmee. The one near Dowtown Disney usually has a much longer wait (2 hrs. +) making the short drive to Kissimmee worth it.

thanks all. We took him to the Carecenter, using a taxi to get there. He was diagnosed with Type A flu, so he's in the room until we fly out Friday. The carecenter worked out well, but the visit lasted 3 hours. Waiting took forever. Thanks again for all the help. Gwen

Sorry to hear your son is sick at Disney! DD had the chickenpox there once. She was stuck in the room for 4 days. Disney was wonderful about it and changed our sheets daily and gave her a card and stuffed Mickey.

I'm so sorry your son got sick at Disney - and with the flu! It's such a weird flu season with H1N1 - who'd think you'd get influenza in July?

Hope the rest of the family is able to stay healthy. Make sure to let your resort know - they may work some magic.

We just did this...$238 for "normal" appointments at Centre Care center...they didn't accept IL insurance.

I'm sorry to hear he has the flu... my kids and I all caught it in Feb of last year during our stay. Watch the prices on Tylonol & cough drops at the Resort store :scared1:

Hope he feels better soon!

A few years ago we were camping in Ft. Wilderness and I had some sort of ear infection. The CareCenter of the Florida Hospital was recommended to me by the Ft. Wilderness front desk. I called and they sent a shuttle which picked me up at my camp site. After my appointment the shuttle took me to the Walgreens across the street, then back to the camp site. There was no charge for the shuttle, although I did tip the driver.

Although I don't remember the details, the Carecenter did not take insurance. After I got home I submitted to my insurance which paid Carecenter. Carecenter immediately refunded the money I paid them (minus deductible).

I was quite pleased.

cvs minute clinic we were in and out last new years trip, total cost after ins.
$10.00. this past june i went to prompt care in tucson twice in the same day,
first time gave me meds and i had an alergic reaction, went back to a closer
prompt care got new meds. total cost after ins. 1st prompt care $76.00,
2nd $60.00. I went to a cvs first and they were not networked with IL ins. I should have went to a walgreens after cvs to see if they were networked with IL. , but i was visiting my DS and i didnt want her to be driving me all over when we had plans for the rest of the day.

Sorry OP to hear your son is sick - did he get swabbed or blood test to be diagnosed? Type A Influenza is the most serious of the 3 flu strains - did they isolate you in the waiting room? This type is highly contagious and can be very serious - I ask because we had a horrible experience at Centra Care and will never go back there. How is he feeling today? Do they think he has H1N1?

Do you think your son had Influenza before you went, if so, did you fly? I worry about those people on the plane down, and back home...

I'm glad the OP went to the docs, as so many people just assume they have colds, yet they have serious contagious diseases. Please make sure you let Disney know you have a contagious illness, and they'll do a deep cleaning of your resort room - this is important for the next guests entering your room. Also, make sure if any of you are going into the parks, that you have practiced great personal hygiene when in contact with your son, so as not to pass on to anyone at the parks.

Healing dust sent to your son - hope he is feeling better soon! Tiger :)
