We are leaving for 3 nights at OKW followed by 2 nights at VB one week from today, but yesterday DD7 had a monkey bar accident and severely fractured her left arm.

Now, I am wondering if VB will still be fun if she can't swim. She's right handed and so she can do art-type activities. She also loves nature. Anyone have any advice? Is there enough fun stuff at VB that doesn't involve actual swimming? Or should I try to switch and just do all 5 days at WDW (I know this may be difficult, but we don't care about specific resorts and I'd even use the points to stay in a non-DVC resort if I needed to). Those of you that have been to VB, what would you do?

Can she get a swimming cast put on the arm? If not, I'd skip VB for this trip. All we did when we went was swim at the beach and swim in the pool. We were only there for three nights, but all we did was swim and play in the sand.

My boss' son broke his arm right before they went to Hawaii last month. They were able to get a waterproof cast so he could swim.

I would say cancel and go when she has her cast off unless like DebbieB you can get a waterproof cover .

Can't find the picture of DGD with bright pink cast from fingers to armpits encased in plastic bag secured with duct tape swimming at SAB or I would try to post it. . Also had some sort of premade cast protector that we purchased at a drug store at home. I think it was meant for showers but was not as good as the plastic bag and duct tape. I don't know about keeping sand out of it though. The other issue which was more of a problem was that she had broken both bones in the lower arm and could not stand the banging and jarring of rides like space mountain, BTR etc.(Her favorites of course) She had a great time anyway. Improvise and have a great trip whichever you decide.

Thanks for all the advice! Called the specialist today and they said a waterproof cast is possible. Yeah! :cheer2:

Got off the phone with both Dr and MS and our new plan looks like this:
Sunday-Tuesday - OKW
Wednesday - VB
Thursday - SSR

We'll get a waterproof cast, but in case the beach is bothering her with the sand and etc, we'll have the option to leave early Thursday morning and spend another day in the parks. If not, we'll spend Thursday morning at VB and drive into the world for the block party at DTD Thursday Night. So anyone attending the block party that sees a little girl with a cast and a pixie haircut (she cut off ALL of her to donate to Locks of Love earlier this week) - that will be us!

Thanks for all the advice!

:thumbsup2

If that's the block party on August 3...we'll be keeping an eye out for you!

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 to your DD!
What an awesome gift--her Locks of Love donation will make a world of difference to someone. :sunny:

Yep - we'll be there on August 3rd! I'm looking forward to stopping by Adventurers Club for a short visit afterwards, I went years and years ago and remember it being so much fun.

DD7's hair is sooo short now. I'll get her to wear her Tinkerbell dress so you'll find us easily if you're there!

Have a great, great time in VB. It is such an awesome place.

By the way, JimMIA, paults and I all welcome your daughter to the one armed club. :thumbsup2
