Help settle an argument about RAC

An argument has broken out here about the Resort Airline Check in.

Without prompting who is on what side of the argument, can a person staying off property drive onto a Disney property and check their bags through the resort airline check in. Or is it reserved only for guests of WDW?

I assume the follow up argument will be (though I cant imagine why), can a WDW guest at All Star Resorts use RAC at a different resort, such as the GF? (I dont know, maybe the value luggage wants to mingle with the deluxe luggage)

In any event, if anyone knows and can end this as to whether RAC is only for guests, much bloodshed (only kidding) will be avoided.

Thanks
:confused3

Just for resort guests, you have to be staying at the resort where you check in, and they 'know' ;).

Well this won't help the argument, but I disagree with kaytieeldr.
I don't believe the RAC employees (which are not Disney CMs ) have anyway of knowing whether you are a resort guest or not, I doubt their computers are tied into Disney's system and you are definitely not required to show any proof that you are staying at that or any other Disney resort.

Maybe someone out there has done it or tried it, that's the only way we"ll ever know for sure.

Every time we have used RAC, we have always had to show them our resort ID's.

When we used RAC it was right next to bell services. If you tried wheeling your luggage into the hotel and over to the RAC, the bell captain most likely see what you were up to.

While in the past we weren't ask about room ID, just recently, (my last 3 stays) I've had to tell them my room number when using RAC. (That was at BLT, BWV, and BCV). I also had wondered about guest not staying at the resort too. During my stay at the BCV I added my DD and SIL to my room reservation even though they were only a day guest and were flying out that afternoon (we just returned from a Disney Cruise, they were leaving and we were staying another week). I did it so that they could use RAC, but they decided to do laundry instead and took their luggage to the airport themselves. I figured the only reason they may not have asked from my room ID on other occassions was that I handed them my regular ID and they cross-referenced my name without asking me.

I have been asked for resort ID as well. For the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would want to lug their bags to a resort they are not staying at merely to use RAC. Why not just lug it to the airport?
So, long story short....you must be staying at the resort at which you are using RAC.

RAC is a free service offered to guests staying at a WDW (operated) resort. PP are correct. You must be a guest in the hotel to use RAC.

A couple of offsite hotels offer the service (not free).

is an offsite (not free) service anyone can use.

An argument has broken out here about the Resort Airline Check in.
A few years ago folks on these boards have stated that Resort Airline baggage Check-in could be used by anybody.

Of course, too much exploitation of a loophole leads to the loophole's being closed, here, by adding a resort ID check to the RAC procedure.

So your argument was not frivolous.

You're right. I stand corrected.

I don't recall any posters who claimed RAC could be used by anybody, including non-resort guests. Sounds like one of your infamous "hypothetical" (make up facts) posts.

Several posters have correctly said any guest (at that resort) could use RAC. RAC isn't limited to guests who used the DME bus arriving or to guests who use the DME bus for their return trip to MCO.

Just to add to this (not that it was asked). The opposite is also true. DME isn't limited to those who use RAC. I cannot use RAC (my flight home does not end in the US), but I can (and did) use DME to get back to the airport. Other people may not trust RAC or may have flights that are too early for RAC or whatever.

Double ditto. I to to WDW at least four times a year, using DME every time. Every time I've had to show my room key. They've always asked for ID and room key. Occasionally they've asked for that DME letter they put on your door that last morning that has your pick up time on it.

Its only $10.00 to use the lbv off airport check in facility so why bother to drag your bags to disney and get turned away.

It's $12 /passenger, if you pay in advance. I don't think a lot of people know about the check in location at the outlet malls. A person who is ending their trip with breakfast at POLY or CR (offsite or another resort) followed by a day at the MK might want to use RAC at the POLY or CR. They can't but it might not be worth the aggravation of making a stop in LBV. Plus they don't open until 8a. Won't work for guests who plan on having an early breakfast.
