Help scrappers! I need an intervention!

Hey I can't find where she re-listed it. Is it the same seller? I looked under all her auction but couldn't find anything.

I too keep all my scrapbook stuff in a rolling drawer system (target). Space is limited in my house so I have to store it away when not using it. I keep all my sticker's, borders, tags, etc., in a three ring binder with plastic sleeves so I can flip through them when looking for a project and all my embellishments are in this tool box I bought at Walmart that has four clear 8 x 10 boxes that slide into a carrier with a handle. Each box has the little dividers in it so you can make a lot of little compartments or what ever size you need and you can see in them without opening them.

Anyway sorry if that was to much information. I told my husband if we win the lottery I'm building a craft room, Yeah!

Now that you mention it, when I went to look at it again, you had already won so I had searched "completed auctions". Evidently she originally listed it out for $9.99 and nobody bid so she dropped the price down. I wasn't thinking clearly, sorry. I absolutely LOVE that layout. DS is really into pirates now, but we don't have any pics of him as or with a pirate. We searched everywhere for Captain Hook while we were there in December, and we kept missing him. We got autographs from Wendy and Mr. Smee, but no Hook. I guess you can tell from my username that my little one LOVES Captain Hook - go figure, he loves the villians. Anyway, hopefully next time we get to WDW or if we do the Disney cruise next year we'll get pics with Hook. DS I think also wants to be a pirate for Halloween this year (yes, we're already talking about when Halloween and Santa will be back ).

OK I just went back through this thread and saw you were talking about Lost. LOVE that show! Do you think they are all dead? and the island is some kind of purgatory. They all have 'issues' that are unresolved. I have not been to the other thread, didn't know one existed, just thought I would ask you.

My son favorite is Hook too! I am hoping to see him on the DW next week. The seller sugguested putting B/W photos in the layout - I think that might be a good idea. They are suppose to have pirate night on the ship so even if I don't get Hook I will at least have him in his pirate outfit.

I told DH when it came out on DVD we were buying it and he was watching it. He said no way (I'm buying it, he's just not watching). I just don't understand what he's thinking. I'll be honest, when I saw the previews for it back in the summer I didn't think I'd like it, but we all know that wasn't the case .

Back to scrapping, things didn't go so well this weekend. I accomplished nothing. DH was sick and I'm still sick and we spent most of the weekend just laying around with DS. So...my goal is to now have my pictures sorted and filed, and have a rolling organizer by Friday. I'm going to Target this afternoon, so hopefully I'll have the rolling cart today.

The pages came today. Very fast shipping and OH My Gosh! They are nicer than anything I could have done myself. The embellishments she put on these was worth the money and she even goes as far as brush painting the journal label and such to make it appear old. I have so many supplies myself but now I want more of hers!!!! This is an evil turn of events!

One more suggestion. If you don't have the room to get all of your stuff out anymore, go to a Power Layouts workshop. It really gets you in gear! Plus, all your pages will be in a box and to put them in your book, you will only need minimal supplies and your box out. (Tape runners, maybe a trimmer and scissors).

Seriously, CM consultants are supposed to be you own personal trainer with ideas to get you going. You can schedule a one on one session with them too to get you going again. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR STYLE! I'm a consultant and mine are nothing fancy, although I go a little more creative with my WDW pages.

Find someone you click with and go! Good luck!

What is a power layout workshop?

I know this was posted before, but I can't find it.

A PL box is a plastic box that contains 12 x 12 plastic guides. Basically, these are plastic sheets with 7x7, 8.5x11 and 12x12 outlines to represent the sizes of CM pages. (Although they are full size so that they will work with full 12x12 pages too).

You lay these out to represent the sides of pages. You crop your pictures and your mounting paper and lay them out on eacyh page. Basically, you will have a whole album laid out in front of you. It really helps you to visualize your pages and page breaks and 2 page LOs.

At the end of the workshop, you put all of the guides back in teh box, so that the top one is the first page. WHen you get hom, you just get out your box & adhesives. (I get out my stemplates for journalining lines and a pencil too). It takes you 2 seconds to unpack. It usually takes me less than 10 minutes to put a page in the book. When you are done, 2 more seconds to pack up.

After I have all of my pages in the book, then I journal. Then it's time to fill teh box again.

You will likely find your own style, but that's the official way. The CMC will go over this at the PL workshop. The PL box also comes with instructions.

It's one of the things that took me from 12 pages in 4 years to 4 complteted albums in 6 months.

Have to add my 2 cents worth in support of the Power Layout box. I purchased one with an extra set of pages (from wtpclc actually) a couple of months ago. I don't use it for everything but when I have a large layout (such as the 32 pages I did on our musical from last spring) it really helps me figure out how I want to organize that much material. Oh, I just do the photos - not the paper and everything although I use notes on any thoughts I have)

But whether I use the box or not I always take time to organize before I scrap. For instance, right now I am working on DS's high school stuff. Last week I finished off his sophomore year so my next step was to a) clean up and put away the sticker sheets, etc I'd been using - the tend to accumulate and then b) pull all the photos, memorabilia, etc for this year (junior year). I keep my photos in a plain sleeve album until I'm ready. Then I use one of the accordian boxes (approx. 5 x 7 size). I sort my photos thinking about my overall book format.

These are more or less chronological but for instance, for football season I grouped everything on his participation as the team's videographer and did that as a single layout, rather than doing early fall games - switiching to some college games and going back and forth. That just didn't make sense to me. Likewise when I was working on his sophomore year he bought his first car. I had pictures from early March when he picked it up, April when he had a chance to wash and wax it for the first time, and summer when he was lettingh is sister pretend to drive it. It just made more sense to me to do that as a single set of pages on his first set of wheels.

To me those are the hard decisions to make - and once I have a general sense of how I'm going to lay the book out I can cruise.

So in that accordian file within 1 pocket I had the Friday night football pictures, his end of season certificate, etc. If something is too big to fit without damage then I'll make a note on the little scrap of paper I put in the file section and stack it next to the box.

I also try to keep my supplies reasonably well organized so that I'm not hunting all the time. I have two of the big zipper folios from Cropper. At least in theory one is more letters and borders while the other is the other sorts of stickers and related items. Papers are sorted by plain, print, etc in the acid free plastic envelopes.

Just a few more thoughts to contemplate. But as has been said - do what works for you, don't worry too much about other's styles, etc.

Everyone is posting such helpful information and I appreciate it. I guess the hardest thing is getting organized and getting started.

I don't really feel like I was lacking in organization, but since we moved and I can't leave my materials out all of the time, I did invest in a rolling cart. Now everything is in one place instead of paper being in a folder, tools in another, large cutters in another, etc.

The biggest problem I'm facing at the moment is knowing where to start. I take lots of pictures and although I haven't counted them, I'd say I have between 700-900 to sort through. Some are "normal" processed pictures and many are digitals stored on CD. I'm not going to scrap every single event or use every picture, but I am finding it overwhelming to try and decide what to scrap first. I read somewhere that you should start with the most recent event (and try to keep current) then work backwards as you get the chance. If anyone has any better suggestions, I'm all ears.

I googled the power sorter and I found lots of info on it, but not a picture of what's inside the box. I think I understand the concept of it and it does sound like it would help me get going. I pulled out my old scrapbook magazines and idea books and what I think I'm going to do for now is just pick out some layouts that will work for my pictures and put them together. Then come back later and add embellishments if I want them.

If anyone could show me or link me to a picture of the contents of the power sorter, I would really appreciate it. I saw some on EBay, but where else can you buy them (where I could see it first?)

Each divider comes out and holds 200 photos (although I have a friend who told me she has at least 221 in one of her dividers). The also have a mini box that comes with 3 dividers (interchangeable with regular PS) for taking to crops. It's free with purchase of PS this month.

You can accomplish the same thing as the Power Layouts box with sheets of 8x11 paper and a shoe box - or larger type box.

A lot of consultants are not listed on the CM web site - I think they have to meet a certain minimum sales quota to be listed in the search..... try calling the UL listed and ask if they know of someone close to you.... or ask around at school.... somebody knows someone....

Or keep asking here..... maybe you should jump into one of the monthly "challenges" so it feels like you are scrapping with others.....

I do a quick layout of a book - then when I am running around throughout the day I think about the page/spread I'm currently on and run ideas through my mind. Then when I finally have time to sit and scrap, I know what I'm gonna do!

Hey guys - this is funny so I hope you don't mind that it tracks off a bit. Last night DH & I decided to get the weekly grocery shopping out of the way after dinner, he was going to do it today on his day off but we had time. When we got home it was a few minutes before 8 and DD start to groan about missing "Lost". She KNOWS I don't like her watching (hey, she's only 14) but it is one of those battles I don't fight too hard. Anyway, I said - oh put your shoes on and give us a hand, it's a rerun anyway. Needless to say she didn't believe me until she turned it on! Then it was...but HOW did you know it was going to be a rerun?
