I couldn't find any preprinted Communion cards that weren't money holders so I had to buy blank cards...

But... what do I write? Congratulations?

(I'm not Catholic... we don't do 1st Communion, so I'm not sure what the correct protocol is!)

You could write Congratulations on your First Holy Communion. You could also say God Bless You on your First Holy Communion.

Thank you both very much!!!

(I never give money as a gift. I broke down and bought gift cards, but it certainly wasn't my first choice.)

Typically, money received from friends and family is put into savings accounts to be used for college, or getting a good start after high school. It's not money to be used buying frivilous items. I don't give money for birthday presents, but always give money for religious occassions.
