We need some more points for our trip in Oct 2013. We own at BCV, April UY. If I want to do a transfer, I understand that I have to get BCV points to be able to use them at 11 months. However, I am not clear on whether or not they have to be the same UY? Can I find any UY as long as they are BCV points?

Please help! I need to make the reservation THIS november. So what's the best way to go about this?

We are trying to decide between a transfer and a small add-on. The add-on is going to be hard b/c we only would want BCV points and a small contract (less than 100 points) and nothing seems to be available so we would probably have to do the add-on direct, which I'm not too keen on.

For a transfer, any use year will do as long as it starts before your trip dates. You get to mix any transferred points with your own for any given night despite that they may be different use years. Moreover, since you can bank points once they have been transferred, you could get points from a 2012 use year and then bank them if needed.

They do not have to be the same UY. Just remember, transferred in points cannot be borrowed, but they can be banked. Just ensure your transferred in points will be useable with this restriction.

So excuse my ignorance, but let me see if I understand this correctly. If I have an April UY and our trip is in October 2013, I can do a transfer of any 2012 UY BCV points as long as my intention is to bank them into my 2013 UY (Starting April of 2013). They then become usable anytime during my 2013 UY as if they were an extension of my 2013 points?

Thanks for the help.

I believe that the points maintain their UY once they are transferred. They don't change to yours.
If you transferred Nov or Dec 2012 points, then they would be current for your trip. If you transferred Jan - Oct 2012 points, then they would need to be banked for your trip.

If they are Jan-Oct 2012 points then are they banked by me once the transfer is complete? So if I do a transfer of, say, June 2012 points I then bank them after they are transferred and they are good from June 2013-June 2014?

Sorry, I am overworked, overtired and not getting my hands around this! Appreciate the help.

The points you transfer in retain their own UY and expire at the end of their own UY. So using your scenario, you have an April UY and you transfer in points for a March UY for 2012. You bank those transferred points into 2013. The banked transferred points expire February 28, 2014.

But because they have separated UYs does not affect your ability to combine the points for a reservation even for a single night. And if you have points from the same home resort you can book a reservation at the 11 month mark. But if the transferred points are from a different home resort you have to wait until the 7 month mark to use the points for the same reservation.
