I have ressies for POR from April 28th for nights, but after reding that they are closing 1000 rooms, and that it is to undergo refurbishment I am concerened that I should cancel and stay offsite. There are 5 in our party, and there is no other moderate to accomodate us. I got the $94 pr night rate, and could not pay more than this for anywhere else.
What would you do ?

The French Quarter closure isn't until 5/4 and they haven't given a date for POR's renovation. So this should not affect your trip. Have a great trip!

Magic Mouse...stay at Riverside! You won't be disappointed! I'm sure that the renovations will not affect you there. I moved to a deluxe because that's where I really wanted to stay anyway. I also have 5 people...I'd stay at Riverside for your dates before I'd move to offsite. I truly believe that they are closing because of slow bookings rather than some huge renovations that wont' be in full swing at the beginning of May anyway.

I read a report about dirty rooms and to be honest that has put me off too. I am thinking if they are closing the resort because it is in need of renovations, should i be staying there ?

I booked a backup reservation at Raddison resort Parkway. I need to really think this through:(

I think the rooms might be "tired" as opposed to dirty

Disney tends to overhaul resorts every 12 years or so if I recall other posts correctly - it is POFQ/POR turn - I do not think the renovations will impact your stay

Thanks
Jason

I'd stay with what you have. Just because they're refurbishing doesn't mean that it's a dump right now. Disney doesn't wait until a resort is falling apart before they do refurbishments so I really wouldn't worry about it. Besides, Riverside doesn't even have a date for starting the refurbishment.

Your concerns are probably one of the main reasons WDW doesn't announce refurbishments until the last minute. I would imagine the bookings for a resort that was soon to undergo refurbishment would drop like a rock when really there's no need to be concerned...imo at least.

As for negative reports, you can read these boards and hear negative comments about any resort at WDW from the All Stars to the Grand Floridian. Until there seemed to be a general concensus, I wouldn't put too much stock in a post here or there that was negative.

For us, the worst onsite resort is preferable to the best offsite, but that's just a matter of personal preference.:)

Thanks for the reassuring replies.

I guess I will stick with the ressies at WDW and cancel the radisson:D

Hi MagicMouse -

I can understand your doubts but just wanted to add my support to what the other posters have said. We were at POR for last fall's MNSSHP - - I personally would always rather be onsite if the budget can swing it - in fact - we would have been at POR the same time as you in a couple of weeks but I moved to the WL only because one of our party has never been there and we love it. DS wanted to STAY w/ POR - he loved it so much.
Overall - I absoutely agree w/ the previous poster that the rooms are perhaps tired, not dirty - and it was still just fine for us...there's alot that POR has over WL, in fact - just MHO -
Choices, choices - I think sometimes we have too many and that's what drives us nutz with the pre-planning!
Have a great time - you will absolutely LOVE POR! Radisson is all newly redone, but it can't compare to being in the magic!
