Help please?

That's a good question, but really depends on what type of vacation you'd like to have. If you are not planning on having at least one scheduled sit down meal per day, you might consider TiW as a better option.

At a cost of $100 for the TiW card - you need to spend $500 before you break even. If you will make multiple trips to WDW and/or plan to eat at quite a few table service restaurants - you will save money. However, when the price went from $75 to $100 - I decided not to renew mine.

I've been an AP holder for the past 3 years and gotten the TIW card.

I love it. I calculated 2 years ago that if I spent 475.00 on TS meals per year that it would pay for itself.

I have been doing 2 solo trips per year (last year I squeezed in a 3rd) and over a 5 or 6 day trip eat 3 or 4 TS meals. I also have a few drinks with those meals which also gets discounted by the TIW card.
I prefer appetizers over desserts most times as well so the TIW card gives me a discount on those.
You can also get the TIW discount at resorts that don't have a TS restaurant - like the food court at POFQ, ASMu, ASSp, ASMo, Pop. So I've gotten the discount on my breakfasts when I stay at any of those resorts.

So for me the TIW card is much better than the DDP.

The TiW can be purchased by Florida Residents, DVC Members, and Annual Passholders. It gives a 20% discount on food and beverages (including alcoholic) at most tables service and some quick services location on WDW for up to ten people at a time. When you purchase it, the card is valid for the remainder of the current month plus 13 full months.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)
* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.

For the complete list of locations and the rules, go to www.tablesinwonderland.com which is the Official Disney site.

Based on the current pricing, the following is the break-even point for menu pricing (assuming you will routinely give an 18% tip):
AP Holder or DVC Member ($100) is $469.48
Resident (not AP holder) ($125) is $586.85
If you also add a Spouse Card ($50), add an additional $234.74
The three amounts above take into consideration that the Sales Tax is also discounted.

When the price of the card was $75 - the break-even point was $375. Now that the card costs $100 - you need to spend $500 before you realize any savings. A family can recoup the cost of the card fairly quickly. As a solo WDW traveler (most of the time), I always saved more than what I paid for the card, but that's because I sometimes dined with others. I decided I didn't need to pay $75 (now $100) annually to subsidize the cost of my friends' discounted meals.

I was at WDW in April for 8 days, and I didn't have TIW. I saved money on my meals, because I had less of a desire to eat at table service restaurants to get my money's worth of the TIW card.

I stand corrected on the break-even point due to discounted sales tax. However, Disney's price creep on the TiW card and the DDP has made getting either increasingly more expensive.

We got the tables in wonderland card for our last trip and will also use it on our upcoming trip this winter.

DH kept track of every restaurant we used it in and we also used it a lot in the food court at our resort. We saved 98.37 in the first 6 days we used it and then after that he stopped really keeping as good track but its paid for now and the next trip its all gravy.

We have also have the DDP and we found for us a family of four with two kids who are not huge eaters that it was too much for us. I always felt like I had to get the most expensive thing on the menu to make sure we were getting our money's worth. With TIW that didn't happen we ate where we wanted to and found we ordered more to what we realistically could and wanted to eat.

Here is a workbook/spreadsheet that will help you decide if the dining plan or the TIW card will do the trick.

For us, since we are return to Disney in 2014 TIW does work well for us. I would not be purchasing the DDP unless they make it better. Cash wise we would still be saving at least $400 without the DDP.

Good luck with your decision and have fun playing with the spreadsheet.
