This is going to sound dumb but I just got the new Mickey and Friends cart. for my Circut and I'm so confused on how to make the characters. I know I'm thinking to hard on this but what am I doing wrong? Are there steps in the order to make them so them on so hard to put together?

I swear...my kids thought I had lose it last night I looked so confused.

Thank for all your help....

It's all in layers. I first cut the shadow/base, then the image in black. Then its the layers of face/white, outfit/tongue, shoes/ribbon/hat...etc...You also have to check the shift of things too...

The first one I did was the standing Mickey...so it went like this

Base-gray
Mickey-black
face-peach
eyes (shift)-white
pants-red
tongue (shift)-pink
Shoes-yellow

Then I glued it all

Hope that helps

Thanks,
I'm about to try my first character. Your directions will make it so much easier! Vicki

I just ordered my Cricut & should have it tomorrow & ran up to Michael's yesterday to get this cart, so these instructions will definitely help me tomorrow! LOL :thumbsup2

You know if i wouldn't have worked at a scrapbook store and been shown how to do the peicings i would have never learned from the lack of instructions they give you with the Cricut.
That goes for my crop-a-dile too.
I think these companies just expect us to know how all this stuff works.
I'm still trying to fiqure out how to emboss with my sizzix without wrinkleing (Sp?)the paper

If you are unsuccessful after trying this, pm your address and I'll mail you a completed paper piecing. I think I have a Mickey. It may be easier for you if you can see what one looks like in person. You'll get the hang of it if you stick with it. Really, after you figure out how to do one, they are pretty much all the same!

One thing: when you cut out the image in balck, it will have lots of little cut lines -- this will show you where to line up the pieces.

More advice

Start big!! If you have the expression start at 8 inches. If you have the little one, go as big as you can. It is much easier to learn the mechanics on the larger paper piecings.

Also, write down the size you are using(in case you get interrupted) and don't change it while you are working
. Don't use the real dial size.

check out cricut.com message boards for lots of advice

Here is a rather large Mickey I made -- I think it is 11 or 11.5 inches. It is really a lot easier to start big.

1> I can't stress this enough. Make sure you do not change sizes while cutting. Each part of Mickey must be cut at the same size or it will not work.

2.THis one does not have a shadow. I started by cutting a base. I hit just the Mickey2 button (page 80 in the handbook) THis gives you a silhoutte with cut lines. Look closely and you can see it is marked where the feet, hands, etc. go.

3. Cut the face by hitting the layers Face/white button and then the mickey2 button

4. cut the white parts out by hitting the layers face.white button then shift then mickey2

5. cut the pants by hitting layers outfit/tongue then mickey2

6. cut tongue by hitting layers outfit/tongue then shift then mickey2

7. cut shoes by hitting layers shoes/ribbbons/hat the the mickey2

next practice assembling without adhesive, use the cutlines as a guideline

Sometimes it is better to do the face then the eyes, sometimes better to the eyes then face. I can't remember with this pieces if it matters.

There will be black spaces in between the pieces.

Thanks so much for being so patience with me....I think this is going to do the trick.

Also, in my handbook a couple of my characters didn't have the eyes (shift) key photo available.. I had to write them in so I knew they were available.. I'll grab my book and post which ones in the AM.. but I believe one was the goofy... The craziest thing.. I couldn't figure out where the eyes were.. than I looked back at the others, like Mickey, that offered that feature..gave it a try w/ Goofy and it cut...

Thanks for the info! I just cut the base for 14 different characters from this cart and 2 of each at that. I need to start working on the autograph books for my girls for our Oct. trip. I thought maybe if I cut a color a night it wouldn't be so bad. I have each character in its own baggie, so I can add all the different layers as I go and then I hopefully won't get confused when I go to put them together.
