Hi everyone,

I have booked a trip for WDW for November of this year (still have 10 days until deposit is due ) and i need to know ...what do i do about trip cancellation insurance?

I have read that the disney one that they offer isn't that great.

now we have booked the trip with WDW Reservations......

what are myoptions for insurance? where can i go?

ALSO: i am a CAA member. i am better off booking a trip thru them, (hotel and passes) price wise, or am i fine with the "special" that i am getting at WDWR? (the special that they advertise, under $1500 for a famly of 4 at a moderate resort for 6 nights, but we added 1 night and we are at moderate hotel...)

advice? suggestions? all are appreciated. thanks so much!

Check with CAA and see what there pakage costs...you can also buy insurance thru them.

If directly with wdw is your best deal then check with Ingle as mentioned or your local CAA office. We can now sell cancellation insurance on products not bought at our offices. It is a new product so I am not sure how the price would compare.

As a Registered Insurance Broker in Ontario, I would advise against the WDW plan and purchase your own through and independant such as INGLE. Actually from what I understand INGLE is now part of a company called Travel Insurance Coordinater.
Also too, I think RBC Insurance is in the business now.
Let me know if you need further assistance and I can see what I can do.
To be honest, I just returned from DIsney and didn't bother with Cancellation Insurance only because you have to have a really good reason for your trip to be cancelled in order to receive any compensation.
I had to cancel a trip for my mother as she was in hospital with pnemonia, and the hoops we had to jump through to get the money back was ridiculous.
As I said if you need more info let me know.

I tend to agree with Ferris...I never get it myself and I take app. 4 vacations a year.

thanks for the advice! because of elderly family members (with no current/ prior problems) we want the travel insurance....they are my grandparents (my mothers parents, and mom is travelling with us) so for this reason we want to look into the insurance. (plus booking 11 months in advance!)

i will look into the options you all provided!!! my main concern was buying it somewhere other than where we bought the tickets from, kwim?

also: how long after confirming the reservation must we purchase the insurance?

because WDW gives us a no penalty/fee cancellation policy if we cancel MORE than 45 days in advance, does that mean we can purchase the policy at that time? (ie thru ingle or caa or rbc etc) or must we purchase it now/when package is confirmed and deposit has been made   :faint:

The insurance needs to be purchased at the time you make the reservation and start paying $$.

so i would call disney and put on the $400 deposit, and then call insurance company and say 'i just paid deposit i want insurance' type of thing....

thanks!

I think with CAA it is within 48 hrs of booking. I am not sure if they considered it booked when it is actually booked or when the deposit is made...I believe it is when deposit is made.

I'm going to take this opportunity to remind everyone that typically cancellation insurance also includes INTERRUPTION, so if something happens during your trip and you're delayed getting home or your plans go awry then the insurance should cover you.

Case in point: On my honeymoon during the summer we flew NW to WDW. Our flights were seriously delayed and they ended up overnighting us in Detroit. NW gave us a hotel voucher, on checking in at the hotel we had to provide a credit card for incidentals. Well NW now isn't honouring the hotel voucher because they went into bankruptcy so the hotel charged the credit card for the stay. Because we had the cancellation *and interruption* insurance that's now covered by the insurance company so we'll get reimbursement. Also applies to the luggage that NW lost and didn't get to us until day 3 of our vacation so we had to purchase clothing etc to wear.

For my upcoming crusie, I booked cancellation insurance with RBC Insurance. They have a number of plans but I didn't need the medical so I opted out of that. I think I paid $189,whcihc covers the three of us and is based on the cast of the trip approx $3,000.

It was very easy, I did it all on the phone.
