Help please! Which rides have "dips"?

Ok, so I've booked a long weekend in September for myself, niece (23), and DD (15) as a present for my DD's 16th birthday, and while the two of them are total thrill ride fans, me...not so much! :confused3 I went to Universal many years ago (when you could still see the Psycho house) and then again maybe 6-ish years ago, and found things had definitely changed! A lot of rides, and I get motion sickness, so I can't do most of them, or at least I don't think I can. My big 'triggers' seem to be long 'dips' and sometimes visual things. For example, I do POTC at MK, and just that one little dip gives my stomach a bit of a jolt, but it's not bad enough to keep me from riding. Much more than that, and I'd have a problem. As for the visual 'cues', I've done Soarin' and survived, but it was tough; I'd probably try it again, but it was tough. Can you guys tell me the places I might want to try? We're definitely doing the HP section, and while I definitely can't do either of the 'thrill' rides, I've seen that they have a walk-thru, at least for Hogwarts...? Any help would be appreciated!

You can walk through most lines and then slip off at the child swap areas, that way you can still see Hogwarts. Honestly, you will be pretty limited on rides.

At IOA:
Caro-Suessel
The Cat in the Hat doesn't dip but it has heavy spinning
Sneetch Train in Suessland is high but very slow and no dipping, should be easy and it's cute
One Fish Two Fish
I've never been on Pterandodon Flyers
Storm Force Acceleration doesn't dip, but spins like Tea Cups at Disney
Sinband Stunt show is a sit down
Poseidons Fury is a walk through show. Gets dark and loud but no riding
Spiderman might get you. It spins a lot and is a motion ride.

At US:
ET dips but it's mild and slow
Men in Black doesnt dip but spins a bit
Shrek 4D
T2
Twister doesnt dip though the floor drops for a second. Doesnt really make your stomach lurch
They have several shows
Stay away from the Mummy lol

Sorry :( you are pretty limited. There's still lots of things to see and take in. You can go through most lines just to watch and leave at the child swap.

At US, just avoid Mummy and Rip Ride Rockit. Simpsons perhaps.

At IOA, avoid Hulk Dudley Do-Right, Jurassic Park, Dragon Challenge, Flight of the Hippogriff and probably Forbidden Journey.

Spiderman rides along on a flat track. However, there are simulated drops where the screen makes it look like you are dropping but you actually are not.

If Soarin gives you a major problem, you might want to avoid Spiderman and Simpsons and even possibly Shrek and Despicable Me since they are all simulators. However, if it is just a minor problem, then take a less drowsy dramamine and HAVE FUN!!!!!

you might want to try seabands I am okay on little dips and such but roller coasters do me in anymore but seabands really helped the motion sickness, you can buy them at any pharmacy

or at least I don't think I can.

This has a lot to do with it for most people. Our minds can go a long way toward causing real, physical effects. Just watch all the happy 10 year olds going on the ride again and again, and try to remind yourself that you aren't much different than them.

These rides aren't designed to make people sick. That stomach jolt is normal, and it won't make you sick. If you try it a couple times, it might even become fun! :thumbsup2

There may be people that post later swearing up and down that such and such makes them sick. However, I'll bet if I showed them a stack of $100,000 to ride and not get sick, it would work. ;)

Ditto on the seabands! I wore them and had no problems.

Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate it. I know I'm kind of limited, but the trip's mostly for the girls, so it's okay.

It's kind of funny, Bonniec mentioned ET (and thanks for your detailed message! :goodvibes ), and that's actually one of the first rides, if not the first, I rode, years ago when I first visited. Both times I've been there it's been with the same niece that's going this next time, but the first time she was little-ish, like 5 or 6, and we did ET, and she refused to ride it the 2nd time we went (which I think was actually a high school graduation present for her), saying that it scared her when she was little! This is the same girl that will ride every blessed thrill ride there is at Disney, Busch Gardens, Sea World (as will my daughter!) multiple times, but she will not ride ET! I'm going to have to see if she'll do it this time around.

I'm sorry, Metro West, I thought I posted this on the Universal Studios main board; did I put somewhere else in error? :sad1: I apologize if you had to move it!

My son is the same way at age 6. Loves roller coasters and anything fast, but hates ET. It's the noise level coupled with the smoke in a few parts. When it shoots out the smoke at him, he wigs.

One thing I love about US/IOA is the child swaps. Forbidden Journey is the best. Go through the line with them and then when you get to the very end, just tell them you'd like to wait in the child swap area. Then you can experience the whole line plus watch some HP while you wait. Most of the child swap areas would be a nice waiting spot for you.

You posted on the Universal resorts board but no sweat. It's all in a day's work. :teeth:
