Help Please...Not sold on camping

I'm not going to lie if I could afford to stay at the Poly. I would jump at it.

Whenever we camp at the beach I love it we have a blast, whenever we camped at the fort I felt drained. Don't get me wrong the campground is first class, but to come back to a room freshly made up after a hot day in the park hits the spot for me.

Now that being said we travel with our pet so we will continue to camp at the Fort, and next time I go I will have a better game plan so I don't clean and cook so much, while everyone is chillin.

It's all in the plan.:thumbsup2

Agreed, camping at the Fort isn't like camping anywhere else, for the most part. From dining shows to a massive theme park just minutes away, to the impeccable comfort stations, I doubt you'll find another campground like it anywhere in the world.

I know I'm off topic, but your new baby is just precious! I've been gone about 2 weeks, so I must have missed the birth. Congratulations!!
P.S. We've stayed at the best hotels at WDW and we love the campground the best.

I don't know, even if I could afford, which if I got rid of the trailer I probably could, I still wouldn't stay in any of the other resorts. I hate living out of a suitcase. It is so much more convenient to be able to load up the 5er and not have to worrying about unpacking/repacking during the trip.

Now back to the OP. Camp at the Fort at least once. It's an experience you won't want to miss and it will probably skew you for life like the rest of us.

You know what that's so true, that's another good PLUS !:woohoo:

Since you already like to camp as "Nike" says "JUST DO IT" ... IMHO the only way to do WDW. :thumbsup2

Once you go, you are hooked and become a FW Addict. There is no cure, but just relieving of symptoms by going back again and again.:thumbsup2

We just came back from our first trip to Fort Wilderness and our fourth trip to Disney World. The first three trips were in hotels. We are hooked on the Fort. The grounds are beautiful. You are not right on top of everyone and I was surprised how quiet the campground was considering how many sites/people there are. There were lots of golf carts, but never overwhelming and they were always considerate of others. I love not having to live out of a suitcase. I can have a snack at night from my own fridge or bake up some of those "place and bake" cookies in the evening for the kids. It's your own home on wheels. The kids can play outside instead of a hotel room. Lots and lots of benefits from camping versus a hotel! Glad you are heading towards the way of camping. Once you camp at the fort, no other campground will compare! Have fun and enjoy the ducks that wander from campsite to campsite looking for crumbs!

I love the Fort also for all the reasons everyone said, plus here's another reason, laundry.

It drives us crazy not to keep our laundry done while on vacation. We're just strange that way. (We do 2 loads of laundry a day at home.) In the resorts, the laundry is over by the pools and takes some time out of our trip to keep it done.

At the Fort, the laundry room is right in the comfort station. I have to go there every night anyway to take a shower, so I drop my laundry in the washer about every other night on my way to the shower. After my shower I put it in the dryer, then go back to the camper and check email. After 30 - 40 minutes of cleaning out my work email, I go pick up my clean clothes from the dryer, and it's DONE.

Oh, I don't cook at Disney either, but it is nice to be able to keep a quick breakfast at the camper such as Hot Chocolate, Juice, yogurt, bagels, breakfast bars, etc.

You do laundry at the Fort, but you don't cook!?!??!:scared:

Thanks to everyone who answered so quickly and posted all thier info (some too much :scared: I think I am sold on the camping and we will probably buy the dining plan....that way I will still feel a little spoiled.:goodvibes

I did this the last trip and it really did make me feel spoiled and I'll always do it from now on!!!!:hippie: and I gotta add...doing laundry on a vacation.....that's just wrong!!!!!!!!! lol

Hey there foulkfamilyof5!! This here is My2QTs. I personally think that you should NOT stay at FW cause some really good firends of yours want you to stay at AKL so they too can experience the second most amazing resort on property (WL is first of course!!!). Yes, this is a little selfish, however, we must make the most of our trips to WDW and we would really like a good reason to hang out at the AKL!!! Think really hard about this decision....and don't worry about those dirty sheets and comfortors at the resorts, they help build character (and immunity to other flesh-eating organisms!!). GL deciding. Let us know what the final outcome is!!!

Yours truly,
goudyfamilyof4

It's even more wrong to wait till I get home and have to do I don't know how many loads with just ONE washer and dryer. We just got a new washer a few months ago, and that thing has the LONGEST wash cycle known to man, even on the shortest setting.

I totally agree. At home, when I'm not on vacation, I'm doing a load of laundry every night. So when I'm on vacation, just an hour or so of laundry during the 9 days of vacation, still makes it feel like I'm not doing any work. I set up camp in the laundry room with a good book, a mug full of Chamomile, and sometimes my laptop while DS and DH are hanging out at the arcade or looping.
