Dh hands are not very soft. He used to work at a sawmill like 10 years ago, I though when he changed jobs his hands should have gotten less calus(sp). Also they seem to be permenently stained yellow?? Again we thought that would have changed after he left the other job. I just don't get it :confused3 . I want him to have normal hands!! The skin on his hands are more like the skin on my heals, I swear! :lmao:

HELP

Let him have the manicures and you take the pedicures!..... ;) Seriously though, I would look into it. I'm sure you have tried lotions but have you tried the gloves? After showering use lotion and then the gloves to help keep in the moiture. Try this at nighttime for a week and see if this helps. Good luck!

Oh, I forgot to mention, he has a phobia with lotions! When he was young he got poinsion ivy, and they had to put that anti ich lotion on all over him. Ever since then..........

You should see him squirm when I FORCE him to put sunblock on. It's torture for him! :rotfl: Strangely I enjoy doing it!!! :lmao:

I'm not sure I could get him to put lotion on his hands. Is there any good liquid soaps that have lotion in them? I could sneak that in our soap dispenser ;) .

Will he use vaseline? Put vaseline on his hands and cover them in socks while he sleeps. I know for me that works great on the tops of my hands when they get dry and cracked in the winter. Not sure how well it would work for the palms if they're callousy though. What about a body scrub and or a pumice stone?

Get him some bag balm. It's similar to vaseline but imho it works better for rough hands

My father was a welder all his life. He ended up with areas on his palms that were very much like the callouses you get on your feet. What made it finally go away was chlorinated water from a pool my parents put in.

If you bought a little chlorine, mixed it up with water and let him soak his hands in it, it might do the trick. Would be easier than doing lotion if he hates the stuff.

Good luck! :goodvibes

You won't like the smell of this remedy, but it has softened and improved the skin on my hands and heels. I read this remedy in my newspaper, like a Dear Abby kind of article. The article said to dilute the vinegar with water, but my hands and feet were dry and cracked by January so I went full throttle.

What I do is rub it on (it will sting if there are cuts) and then go to bed. I don't know what the vinegar is actually doing to my skin, but it definately has helped me. Plus, vinegar is inexpensive, chez cheap!

Good luck!

paraffin treatments do wonders for your skin...does wonders..and it's more like a wax... I do mine at home :)

I second the paraffin idea. I use it on my hands and feet. Follow the instructions that come with the spa, be sure and use the plastic bags and wrap his hands in towels. The towels will help keep the heat in a little longer.

My dermatologist recommended a soap called CeraVe for my husband. He's been using it for a few weeks now and has seen a lot of improvement. It is on the expensive side (almost $14 a bottle), but he's the only one who uses it so it lasts a long time.
I did sneak a handwashing or 2 with it and it really does seem to keep my hands nice and moisturized.

I got it at CVS, Walgreen's has it too.
