Help Please! Iron On advice for athletic type fabric??

My DH has requested that this year's family shirts be some kind of moisture wicking, fast drying athletic wear type material - anything but cotton! My concern is whether an iron on transfer will work for this type of material- certainly there is a kind somewhere that does (I mean I have shirts from races that have sponsor listings, race names, etc.)... anyone have any advice on what I should be looking for? Special iron on transfer paper? a particular material for the shirts?

I would ask Amy (Mickey) since she sells the best transfer paper for "regular" cotton shirts.
