This time frame will be hot and crowded. How are you with heat and crowds? If you and or your partner does not do well with either then I would change your dates to a less hot less crowded time of year.

I was worried too..our first trip was planned for July 19th...but we found minimal crowds...and REALLY enjoyed our time there...got to see all we wanted :) It's all worth it!

Well....there's never a really bad time to go to WDW.....but that time of year would not be most people's first choice. :)

For starters, if you were to change your dates - what times of year could you go? Do you have work which would restrict the time you could go? Children in school?

Have you thought of providing this info. in a post on the DIS UK Trip Planning Forum. They are a very friendly bunch over there and are very practiced at helping UK'ers. :)

Plan in place for your trip and I feel you will be fine.Use fastpass and have PS arrangements in place for dining venues you want to try.In the day plan to go back to your resort for some rest and a break from crowds and heat. We've been at this time of year and had a great time. That said it is not our favorite time to visit,we like to go first part of December to see all the holiday decorations and holiday happenings. You can have great time at WDW no matter the time of the year you go if you take the time to plan but be flexible with those plans.A good basic plan is all you need not a minute by minute plan.:earsboy: :sunny:  :earsgirl:

I wouldn't worry about the weather. We have just booked for our third trip. We are going back next Aug - just hope it's not raining like it has been this last few days LOL. WDW is just the best place to be in.

Don't worry about re-scheduling. If you do it right, you will be fine. There are tricks that can help beat the heat...

1. Get a big hat - light colored with a brim that goes all around... NOT a baseball cap. Disney sells those kinds of "floppy" hats almost everywhere, and wear it whenever you are out.

2. Where LOTS of sunscreen... preferrably that waterproof stuff for babies with spf of 48 or whatever. You WILL need to re-apply several times throughout the day because you will be sweating it off.

3. ALWAYS have a bottle of water with you and drink from it all the time. You MUST stay hydrated. If you don't, you are gonna feel lousy real fast and it will take a while to recover. So keep drinking water all day long. I know you are going to think you are going to float away, but you will be sweating more than you realize.

4. Take breaks thoughout the day when you start feeling overly hot. Go on a long air conditioned ride, or "shop" in an airconditioned store, or buy a drink (go light on the soda and drink water instead) at a restaurant... maybe a light snack too... try to stay away from heavy meals if you are going to be out in the heat... but get your drink and snack and cool off in a restaurant where you are a customer.

5. Get one of those water spraying fans and keep your shirt and hat "wet" or at least moist.

Between powering down the water, wearing the hat, and using the misting fans you will do just fine! So relax and enjoy!

Have a great trip!

We went two year's ago around that same time period. We had the time of our lives. Use your FP wisely.

First of all: RELAX. There is never a perfect time to go to Disney. There are pluses and minuses of every time.

Can the weather get hot? Yes. Can the crowds get large? Yes. Can you still have fun? Absolutely.

Your biggest advantage is the fact that you will be there for two weeks. The parks are also open later during that time of year. This gives you plenty of time to see everything. If it gets too hot one or two days, go back to your resort and rest or swim in the pool until it cools down in the evening. The same goes if it is too crowded. In fact, with that much time in Disney I'd recommend a mid day break on most days.

If you are aware of the potential for large crowds or hot days you can prepare for them. As long as you two won't be miserable when you see crowds you'll have fun. Get to the park early (use EMH if you're staying on site) and use FP.

Go and have fun.

uktigger---

I forgot THE MOST important reason for you to go when you ARE going!!!! Timekeeper and Carrousel of Progress are OPEN!!!! We like to go to WDW for the Food and Wine Festival in October, but alas, TK and COP are closed... they are only open during high attendance times... (whimper).

SO you MUST go and ride them for me and my DW. A report back on how much fun you had would be most appreciated!

There are some folks on the DIS who are far more knowlegable than I am, and I'm sure they will correct me if they know those two wonderful, magical, superb attractions will be closed during your visit. I think they will be open, but the DIS experts can let you know for sure.

Darian

PS - I forgot to ask, Uktigger, are you feeling better now?

Its been really hot hear for the last two weeks...Im in Essex just a few miles from you...I don't think I could take this kind of heat every day in Florida walking round the parks but then thats me I don't like the heat!!!

Some love the heat and there is something to be said about being in USA for Independance Day..Long park hours...water parks...every thing open..

My mother and I went durring the same time a few years ago. It was hot and humid, but there are plenty of ways to take breaks, all indoor shops, restaurants and indoor rides have A/C. But this is how my mom and I beat the heat:

We went to the parks the very first thing in the morning, oftern leaving the hotel by 7 AM. We would use Fast Passes whenever available. We would have lunch in the park between 11 AM to 1 PM depending on how we felt that day, and then went back to the hotel for naps and/or swims. We had dinner and went back to the parks around 6 until close.

The parks are crowed, but they are designed for this, with most ride lines being either indoors or in the shade, and Fast Pass is also very helpfull.

Always carry water when possible, wear sun-screen and a hat, wear light weight - light colored cotton clothes, and comfortable shoes, I can't stress the shoes enough!

Really, it's not as bad as it sounds, I don't think you should reschedule, and the water parks and pools are so much fun when it's hot! Just get to the water parks as soon as they open, sometime they fill up and they close the parks to additional people. Rare, but it can happen.

I hope you enjoy your time in the US, you're right, the 4th (as we call it!) is a great time to be here. I hope it cools down for you at home, we've been hearing about it on the news. It doesn't sound like much to us here, but we're used to it!

Oh my, I almost forgot - uktigger - you must go to Typhoon Lagoon and ride the lazy river ride. You get on a round "inner tube" and float down the river. Doesn't sound too exciting, but wait! There is beautiful foliage, trees, and flowers lining the "river" with misters, little water jets here and there and even a waterfall which will keep you cool. But there are some very shadey parts and the river moves at the perfect speed.

There are landings spaced nicely apart where you can get off the river and enjoy an adult libation... get something with an umbrella and rum and mango juice. Don't know if you ever watched Red Dwarf, but this is definitly something Lister would enjoy. Apologies if I spelt his name wrong. Make a restroom stop and get back on the river and float some more. Its cool, relaxing and surreal. It takes about 45 minutes to complete the circuit around the park. Yes, its a long and beautiful trip.

This sounds stupid, but it was my fave attraction out of all the parks. Its worth the trip to WDW all by itself.

uktigger -

Disney sells these very handy bright yellow rain ponchos that have hoods as well. They can keep you amazingly dry (well, from your knees up anyway) and they are pretty inexpensive... $5 or so I believe. Though they may be more...someone who has recently visited WDW can give you better info.

DW and I watched Ground Force on BBC America last night I was thinking about this thread. I was concerned you might be in a panic over the heat. Glad to hear you have it under control!

Thanks to budget cuts (May Eisner suffer eternally in the 7th level of Hell) Timekeeper and Carrousel of Progress are closed when we go in October ("off season") so I would be honored if you could ride them for DW and I. Descriptions of both wonderful attractions are on the official Disney World website.

Have a wonderful time!
