Help please - anyone who won a Skyauction

Question #1 -
About the 2 bedroom skyauction listings (at Vistana, for example) - does this mean a 2 BR villa OR 2 BR lockoff OR can I make a for request either of these two villa types?

Question #2 -
Do the Vistana Village villas ever show up on the listings?

Question #3 -
How long should I wait before expecting to see the best deals, and do you have a strategy for this? For example, my trip is in May. I assume that patiently waiting until a few monthes out will show the most listings. If this is true, do you go ahead and make a "safety" reservation that you can cancel later?

A 2 br is indeed an actual 2 bedroom condo. You probably won't start seeing much for may until Feb. or March. Last April I found the best deals(like a 3 bedroom at silver lake) came up about a month ahead of time. I have never seen Vistana Villages come up.

I've won an auction but I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.

I won a 2 bedrm. at CPGV but I don't think it is a lock off. I could be wrong.

I think some resorts will have regular 2 bdrm villas and some will have lock off units and some may have both. If you are considering a particular resort, you may want to call that resort directly and inquire about what type of units they have. Not sure that a resort with both villas and lock off units would be able to guarantee one or the other...again, you'd probably have to make a request with the resort.

If you do plan to wait until a month or so before your trip to bid, I would definitely make a cancelable back up reservation somewhere so you aren't scrounging for something at the last minute.

A lock off unit is like 2 units linked together with a connecting doorway (or doorway alcove). Each has it's own keyed entrance, and can therefore be used independently of the other. We had a lock off at the HGVC in 2002...it was a 1 bdrm unit plus a studio unit combined to make a 2 bdrm, thus we had a full kitchen and a mini kitchen, 2 sitting areas and 2 full baths. IMHO, it would be great for extended families traveling together...would love to snag one of these next year when my MIL travels with us!

disneysteve -- There is a 2 BR lockoff floorplan on the Vistana Villages website if you want to see what Local_Girl is talking about.

For us, it's a little more space where we could get all four kids out of the one bedroom (using the sofa in the second living room) but still have one "living" area that didn't require us to stow the bed everyday.
