Hello everyone. I wanted to let you all know why I haven't been on the boards much, I have been really busy. I have a friend who is in the hospital. My friend is a 16 y/o boy with Downs Syndrome. This boy, Michael, came to my office after recovering from a DVT. Michael and I have become very close. The first time he came into the office he was very combative, I stayed with him the entire visit and we bonded. He would only let people do blood draws,or the doctor exam unless I was there. I am the only one he has ever let give him a flu shot, it usually took 4 people to hold him down. He has had alot of hospital time, more than most .
He has named me "His Ariel". He also shares the love of Disney. His speach isn't very good, but says Mickey Mouse very clearly. His mom wants to take him to Disney when he gets well. The are a few things that are stopping her, money
(due to time lost at work) and his step dad is out of work. I am trying to make this happen for them. I would appreciate any suggestions that you have to make this dream come true.
Your Friend,
Missy
Update: Michael is still in the hospital, but doing rehab. He has lost alot of weight and muscle coordination. They hope he will be going home in a week. The down side is he will have to have a feeding tube, he keeps aspirating. The Drs seem to think it will be a temporary thing. He came to see me at the store yesterday, I don't know who was more excited he or I. Michael still has the DVT's and will have to be a blood thinners.
Thanks Everyone for all of your prayers.
