We stayed at Universal last May. Our room at the HR was nice and comfy except for the overwhelmingly strong smell of paint. It was quite a battle to get a new room. The food options were nothing exciting and much more expensive than Disney. I do have to add that as fast as 'in park' food went, it was very limited. The counter service places we tried were all average park fare, but Mythos, at IoA was wonderful. The blackened MahiMahi was one og the most delicious things I have ever eaten. They also serve amazing bread and they didnt get mad when my son and I fight over who could lick the bowl clean after the mushroom soup...lol...
And it did feel like I was betraying my beloved Disney..
Whenw e went a few years back we stayed at the Portofino and we booked a Dr Seuss suite. The themeing for our 2 DD's was great.
They had a separate bedroom next to ours which was decorated with all the characters from Dr Seuss. Thye had their own play area and tv and small couch. The room was huge. Our room was stunning and the bed was to die for king size and plenty of room. After being in a WDW room together it was great to be able to stretch out.
The pools at the hotel were great, the main one had a great layout and theme and the kids loved the slide.
The piazza of the hotel was great with some fantastic restaurants. The boat ride to park was relaxing but we also walked it one morning and it wasn't too bad either.
The staff were great with our youngest falling sick they had a doctor there as quick as they could manage. He had her tested and diagnosed and mixed her medicine on the spot. Within 24 hours she was on the mend.
We stayed at HR hotel in September last year for four nights then headed to PoR for ten days afterwards. I'd I ask my kids now what part of the holiday was their favourite the unanimous answer was Hard Rock. DD 11 DD'9 and DS 6 loved the pool. We were happy to sit round the pool and snack while they swam at the dive in movies at night. We did three days at
Universal, got to be the first family to open Universal park one day, and ate out at Margaritaville as a family one night. Loved the convenience of the water taxi when kids were tired in the afternoons and being able to wander to parks around the garden paths in the morning.
funny story, we were intending on staying at RPR again this time around, but my travellers decided they want to try somewhere different (and carlo heard about the starbucks in the lobby) and so they now want to try HRH. i swear....it's so much easier when they just let me do everything without consultation. so i may/may not be at HRH this year
