I don't understand the pin trading. Do you buy pins and then trade them with whom?

Time warp,

Back in 2000 when they first started the pin trading, you could purchase pins at your local Disney store, but the following year
when i checked with my local Disney store, i was told that they
don't sell them any more it was just to help promote the pin trading. So i believe that you will have to wait until you get to
Disney to purchase your pins.:(

My DW stopped by our local DS to purchase some pins prior to our departure next week and was also told they don't trade and/or carry pins anymore.

She is a big trader when at Disney. Hey - it keeps her happy

I bought my pins for my group from cheappins.com. I bought 100 pins that we split among 5 people. We ended up paying $180 total, which brought it down to about $1.80 a pin, much cheaper than buying them at Disney. All the pins were tradable. We didn't really care that the pins were old, since we traded them all away anyways!

It took about a week after buying the pins online for me to receive them. It really was so much easier and cheaper. Plus, you didn't have to worry about trading a pin that you actually liked!

Thank to everyone that offered information. What I would like to know is where to buy pins at Disney. I was last there in January 2001 and really did not pay much attention to the pins. I ended up buying a few for my DD's at our local Disney store and online.

My question is where can you buy pins at the parks? I would like to buy a few of the limited pins (1/5000) that are advertised on the Disney website. Are these available at any shop or are they only at special locations? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

marcdavd,
You can purchase Disney pins all over Disney. Also pretty sure you can find limited editions anywhere, just ask a CM.

We were at WDW last weekend and my wife had a young boy ask if she would trade a pin she had on her hat for any one that he had. She said no and then he said he would let her take 5 pins. Her answere again was no so he came back with "You can have all my pins". No matter what he would have offered she would have said no because the pin is her most cherished one she bought at a local Disney Store, it is a framed picture of Walt.
