HI all,

I am working with a family (I 'm their nanny) to have them plan a trip for January when the adoption of the two children is complete.

Both children are autistic that are in the family and I am wondering if you all have any recommendations on which resort would be the least overstimulating. I was thinking Port Orleans- Riverside for a Moderate and possibly Pop Century for a Value?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be most appreciated!!

Thanks for all the help!

How much experience does the family have with the children? Are they all living together now and it's just the paperwork that needs to finish up?

Does the family current have 2 autistic children and they are adopting 2 more children? Or are the only children those they are adopting (and they are autistic)? Family size and ages may make a difference in resort choices so that would be helpful to know.

In general, the value resorts have more "in your face" theming than moderate or deluxes, which tend to be a little more subtle. That said, the resort "theme" itself has never been overstimulating for our family. I would also venture to say that values have more kids and louder food courts. Moderates also have food courts (which can get loud), but also offer table service locations if dining at the resort will be a factor. All resorts have multiple pools, but I don't think there are any "quiet pools" so-to-speak at the values like the mods have. It can be nice for a cool dip without the chaos of lots of kids running around. Main pools at the moderates will have slides, if that is of interest; value pools are fun but not slides.

That's some basic comparisons. A little more info about the family and the kids needs might help us provide more specifics.

The family is living together and has been for two years, just paperwork to go through and finalize.

It's a single Mom with just the two autistic children, another adult will most likely be on hand to help. So one adult and two children.

I personally find the values overstimulating and I'm just a regular adult. LOL. We've stopped in Pop Century to check it out and my then 11 year old said "it's crazy in here." I'm not sure if you'll all have a car there or not, but the values tend to have the longest bus lines at each park, loaded with other families with kids. Just a naturally loud, chaotic, situation.

If the family is looking for the a place that isn't over stimulating, then I'd just skip a value alltogether . But I think you're right on with Port Orleans Riverside,

My thoughts would be a DVC villa, Old Key West is the most laid back.
This will give the kids a lot more options to find their own space as needed.
If you want to be close to Magic Kingdom, Villas of Wilderness lodge would be good also.

A 2 villa bedroom is great, and if you need a 3rd bedroom you can always add a nearby studio. Having is kitchen is nice since many of our kids diets can be limited, and eating out can be challenging, so you can do it as an "experience" rather than a requirement.

This would be my vote. OKW villas are HUGE, so it would give everyone space. You have a full kitchen, so food preferences are no big deal, and a washer and dryer, so if either of the kids feels most comfortable in a particular outfit, you can wash it quickly. (Over and over again if necessary!)

It's also close, but not too close to Downtown Disney (DTD).
