We are going to take the leap and will get Power Passes when we stay this October. Im trying to lay out 2 return trips for 2017, one in the spring and one the end of October 2017.
What are the best low crowd times in the spring? We are very flexible with dates.

Easter is April 16. For 2016 they blocked out the week before and after Easter for the Power Pass for both parks. I don't see where the 2017 blockout dates are available yet, but would avoid Easter time. Ash Wednesday will be March 1, so Mardi Gras will probably start before that. Most colleges I know still have spring breaks in Easter, but I don't know much more than that!

Just looked up the Mardi Gras dates for 2016, looks like was Feb 6 - April 16. I've never been, there is a parade and concerts I think on the weekends

May can work but fridays are busy with teen events in the evening.
studios closes earlier for grad bash and grad adventure for their dates in April and May on some fridays.

other than that, May is decent for crowds if you stay away from the holiday weekend at the end of the month.

We are getting year passes on our next Universal trip too. Planning on going either the last week of April or first week of May 2017 for our spring trip.

Was shocked how crowded Mardi Gras was last year. If you want to avoid the crowds & have chance of lower hotel rates, look at mid week. If you are determined to book during MG, skip Studios on the weekend & visit IoA

Mother's Day weekend was busy in the parks. We've been there for Father's Day - ditto.

Im not interested in MG in anyway. I live where Mardi Gras started so its not something i would go out of my way to see.

Fat Tuesday, February 28, 2017
So i am guessing Mardi gras in Universal ends somewhere around there

More like first weekend in February to middle of April lol

Google the dates for 2016 & 2015 to get an idea. Not all weekends would be as crowded as others, or so I'm told. If Fall Out Boy is back on it'll be a nightmare.

Fat Tusday ends the Mardi Gras season in Mobile and New Orleans. I thought it would also be the end of Mardi Gras season in Universal. Ash Wednesday follows Fat Tuesday and is the beginning of Lint.

Universal style of Mardi Gras goes into April

And it brings in many people

And UO is the only place that Halloween starts 6 weeks before that holiday/ event

Nope it starts a week earlier at Disney ;)
We went the last weekend of Mardi Gras mid April this year. It was VERY busy.

Many colleges have spring break in early March, or March period. Grade school spring breaks start lat March and go strong for 2 or 3 weeks. I think Easter will extend that this year. I've been to universal during March for college spring break and it does not effect the crowds THAT much. We always went mid week to avoid the Mardi Gras crowd. I will continue that in the future and not full with MG. It wasn't worth it in my personal opinion other than the Parade. If I do again during that time I will be riding rides during the event! :)

Mardi Gras is fun at universal. Not like Mobile but lots of fun. We go at least once every year.
