we had decided to go to wdw for 5+2 dreammaker package from 8/30 thru 9/6... basically to save $ we selected pop century... then we got to talking... our family are all "big" people (dd wears a women's medium! ds wears a men's small, and dh and i are both plus size)... and two double beds just won't cut it; dh needs one all to himself (we have a king sized bed at home)... last time we travelled dd made a sleeping bag and slept on the floor, but already informed us she does not want to have to do that for 7 nights, and i don't blame her!

so, we figured we'd get adjoining rooms at pc so we'd have four beds, one per person, and quite a bit more space... but then when we got to thinking that for what we will spend on room only, we might as well think about upgrading to a better hotel... moderates, imo, don't offer much more than values as far as space and amenities, but deluxes would work...

i have no desire or intention of cooking, so home away from home's are not what we need...

any suggestions as to where we should stay? which has the coolest pool? or the best views (w/out costing a fortune)? do any of the deluxe's have "food court" type offerings for when we dont' want to do expensive restaurant meals?

i'm suddenly so confused and our trip is not that far away!

also, if we do decide to go w/a deluxe, how does one use codes and get the best price?

thanks in advance to all that made it this far!

I'd try either the Wilderness Lodge or the AKL, since they are the cheapest deluxe resorts and both have wonderful atmospheres to soak up. The WL is probably the most convenient, with a boat launch to MK and easy access to Fort Wilderness and the Contemporay Resort/Monorail. You can also see the nightly boat parade from there.

In my opinion though, the resort with the coolest pool is the Beach Club, which is within walking distance of Epcot. So, also a great location! But, it is expensive...

Enjoy the possibilities! Tyring to figure out where to stay is half the fun!

thanks for your input... i looked at WL but we'd have the same problem w/sleeping arrangements... only two beds... dh is a total bedhog (and 6'4" tall!) and sleeps diagonally, and i'm not looking forward to me and two kids in the same bed! LOL!

soooo... we've decided to try getting two adjoining rooms at cp... i think! :p

One advantage to two rooms at a less expensive resort is that you do get 2 bathrooms. That is a must for my crew. And if you are thinking to upgrade, the moderates have slides at the pools and sit down restaurants. POFQ does not have the sit-down restaurant, but POR is just steps away.

Good luck with your decision!

I am confused. Are you getting 2 rooms no matter which category you stay in, or are you under the assumption that if you move up to a deluxe resort you will get more beds in one room? Unless you get 2 rooms you are only going to have 2 beds no matter which category the resort is in. If you get a room at Poly or Contemporary you will have an additional day bed that is the size of a twin bed, but you will still not have 4 beds. And the Poly and Contemporary are 2 of the highest priced resorts in the deluxe category.
If you want to move up to the deluxe category and still get 2 rooms WL and AKL have the best rates. You can get rooms there with rates less than $130. a night, at times. There is a definite difference as you move up the ladder in WDW resorts categories and it is very evident in their deluxe resorts.
If that is too much for your budget, the moderates can be had for under $80-90 a night with a discount. We find the moderates to be a very nice step up from the value resorts and well worth the additional $20 - $30.00 per night.
If that is still more than you want to spend then the value resorts are also very nice, just not as elaborate and posh as the resorts get as you move up from a value to mod to deluxe.
But for your sleeping needs, I would definitely get 2 rooms, no matter which resort category you choose.
Just figure out how much you want to spend per night for 2 rooms and then go from there as to which category will fit your budget.

BTW, what resort is cp? Are you referring to Pop Century or Contemporary ?

......ONE room at the Cont. (they have some of the biggest rooms on property). You would have 2 queen size beds (one for DH and one for you and DD) and a daybed for your DS. With only two kids that age, you probably wouldn't have to have two bathrooms. BUT.........if you wanted two bathrooms...............

....I'd go with two rooms at WL. It's a deluxe, but one of the cheaper deluxes.

You'd save money with the one room at the Cont. though.

Have fun planning.

thanks all! i was thinking along the lines of one room at a deluxe would offer three beds, which would suit our needs (two queens and a daybed) which someone suggested... also looked into yacht and beach club which some rooms offer daybeds...

i realize that deluxes offer more amenities and such, but we are such non-amenity people... it's really a waste... i like the idea of adjoining rooms at a value w/the extra bonus of two bathrooms and two tvs (one for kids, one for dh/i!) so i think by "talking it thru" here, i've made our decision... connecting rooms at pc!

yes, pc = pop century (did i make a typo and reverse the initials earlier? if so, duh @ me!)

again, thanks :o)

Connecting rooms at PC would be great, but you also might consider the Contemporary Wing section. That does give you the 2 queens and 1 day bed (that is a twin size bed). Plus you get the monorail. Tough choice to make - but I envy you. Enjoy.

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that the daybeds at YC are not full-size twin beds. They are shorter and narrower.

The moderates have two double beds, the same as the value resorts. They do have additional floor space, and the privacy curtain between the dressing area and main room.

I think Alligator Bayou at POR has two double beds, and a trundle bed (close to full-size twin) is available for...$25 + tax per night?

Practical being that I am, I would opt for two connecting value resort rooms to gain the extra bathroom! :)

thanks taja... we're definitely going w/two value rooms... dh and i decided... i'm glad to have that off my "to decide" list!

i also read that the daybed is only 60" long... dd is already five foot, so she wouldn't fit... ds is only a few inches shorter, so it would be a tight squeeze for him as well... hence the decision! LOL!
