So we originally were going to use Randy Chapman to shoot our Engagement shots in Magic Kingdom but we got a call today that he got a letter from Disney stating he is no longer allowed to shoot in Magic Kingdom or he will be banned:scared::sad:
What are some other photographers that do shoots inside Magic Kingdom!?
Thanks!

Most outside photographers are not permitted to shoot in the MK. I have seen a thread on here about a few who are or maybe approved. However, I think Randy Chapman was on that list so if you really want MK shots you may have to schedule a professional shoot with Disney' photographers.

Technically, none of them. Any non-Disney employed photographers are at risk of getting that exact same letter from Disney and being prohibited from shooting weddings with them. Randy was the most popular outside photographer who would go in park that I know of.

Disney Fine Art Photography is your best bet if you don't want to run the risk of this happening again. You might get lucky with a photographer who doesn't frequent Disney weddings as much as Randy Chapman/other popular Disney wedding outside photogs who's willing to take the risk, but again most of the popular Disney wedding outside photographers I know refuse to shoot in-park, because of the risk that Disney will ban them from future weddings.

I know you want a professional photographer but could someone in your party take the shots with your own camera? Or, if it's just the two of you, most Cast Members will help you out or even a passing guest.

We did family photos with Disney Event Photography - and we couldn't be happier with our results!

We called Disney Fine Art Photography and its $1,700 for a one hour shoot inside Magic Kingdom.:sad2::eek::faint:
We are only going the two of us so we don't have someone in our party to shoot for us :/
I guess MM it is :confused3:confused:

If you have a friend with you who will shoot the photos you should be able to get some good shots. Getting perfectly acceptable photos just takes a little practice and reading a basic photo book or 2. Just knowing a few basic rules can get you most of the way there.

I'm a photographer but have never done a shoot inside WDW before. I guess outside photographers have to obtain and/or pay for a permit because it is a commercial shoot?

I know I had to fork up some money if I wanted to shoot portraits for a client at a state park in NY.

Randy Chapman is permitted to do photo shoots at the resorts. Have you considered places like the Poly Beach or the Contemporary Bridge that have views of the castle, but where outside photographers are permitted to go?

I was pretty much set on the castle but I guess I will have to start exploring other options. I don't want to do the beach because it has no ties to us or our wedding which is going to be in December in NY. I will start exploring other options. Perhaps I will shoot in December at the GF in front of the Christmas decorations?! I was hoping to be sending out the Save the Dates by then not just getting the photos :/
I have to think long and hard about this. *Sigh*

Unfortunately the only alternative to Disney Fine Art Photography is Photopass.. If you make a Photopass Photographer aware of your special occasion they can take some fairly good quality photos for you.. Here is also an official website with engagement ideas at WDW:

Disney's policy is that all photography must be non-pecuniary in nature unless their employees are doing it in the parks.

That said, if your vacation overlapped with mine (it doesn't :( ) I'd absolutely bring some fast (read: heavy) lenses and a flash into the park one day and take a few pictures in exchange for a Mickey ice cream bar. Assuming you just want a few shots for cards or some such, it shouldn't take horribly long - and besides photopass or the expensive $1700/hr options, that may be your best choice is to find an amateur who's willing to do it. I couldn't do it for everybody (besides, Disney would get suspicious and I can't eat that much ice cream!) but one couple isn't outside of the realm of possibility for somebody just taking a minute of their own time to be nice. :)

Have you tried posting in the photography board?

We have had some really clever photopass photographers pose us very creatively and with great lighting and with a lot of time. Wedding is one thing, but engagement, $1700 is definitely too steep for that, in my thoughts. I think you could great ones with memory maker all over the park. Some of the ones we have had were extremely interested in getting really good shots. I got engaged at a luau in Maui and we just had a few pics a few others took. Sometimes overly posed or perfect smugey filter photos are too canned. I'd say go have a great time, take photos everywhere, fun and romantic ones, kiss on all the rides you can (I like our Test Track smooch recently), get as many photos with the Castle during the day and at night, in front of the Hollywood Tower Hotel etc, and most of all, have a blast! (These are just my opinions.)

As I said, you can ask a Cast Member to take the picture or even a passing guest.

My story - many years ago, my mother-in-law and father-in-law took my husband and me to Disney World and we stayed in a great suite at the Boardwalk because my mother-in-law wanted to see "the ball" every night. It was the one time we were spoiled at Disney World. My father and stepmother lived just two hours from Disney World so I arraigned for them to surprise my in-laws by just showing up (my in-laws and my parents have always been close, so much that they did things together without us even knowing!). Anyway, the arraignment was that the in-laws and my husband and I would go to breakfast at, I think, Spoodles. It was a late breakfast and we were seated at a nice table for six. Because my dad and stepmother were already there waiting for us! My in-laws were shocked! After the breakfast, I wanted a photo of all six of us together on the Boardwalk. My father-in-law said it couldn't be done and we were not going to pay for it. I said, "trust me". I just walked up to the DVC guy at his little booth and asked him if he would mind taking a photo. He did without hesitation and even posed us. It's one of my favorite photos of all time as two of the people are no longer with us.

The contemporary has great castle views and it isn't a beach shot. I know it is disappointing that Randy can no longer go in the park (believe me, I am with you there, we were hoping to do an mk family shoot with him next time we went), but I really think the mk resorts, esp. contemporary, are a viable option for getting you something similar to your inspiration shots.

I love your memory! ANd you are so right, the awesome CM's are usually glad to take a picture for you!

We used Randy for our Disney wedding and were extremely pleased. He does a fantastic job and is really creative. Maybe ask him where he as shot the castle from not in the parks?

We had to use Disney's photographers for Epcot and they did an amazing job as well.

What about booking a pre-opening ADR to at least get Main Street a little less crowded?

Randy is phenomenal! We used him for our wedding and we are planning on having him do some family photographs as soon as my son gets a little older. Have him shoot around the resorts, you won't regret it.

Agree with PP that it might make sense to do your shoot at one of the resorts like Grand Floridian or outside the park in Boardwalk. Lots of photographers seem to have experience with this - just do a Google search for Orlando Disney photographers. When I was looking I found at least 7 pages of results and just looked through the websites to see the styles that I liked. The shoots were less than $500 for an hour so $1700 sounds outrageous. If you have your heart set on the castle, find a photopass photographer in the park. I'm sure they have lots of experience posing and taking pictures of engaged couples.

One advantage to waiting until AFTER the holidays to send out your Save the Date is that it won't get lost with all the Christmas cards people get. And from your signature sending in early January would still give them 11 months notice.

As for ideas.....go to Pinterest and search for Engagement announcement at Disneyworld and you'll get hundreds of cute ideas. I just looked at a few just now and a really cute one with Chip & Dale holding signs that said "Save the Date" and then the other card has the date. You could do that with a photopass taking the picture.....buy the Memory Maker and get the rights to use the photos. That would be fun to go around and have that kind of photo taken with all the characters you can find....choose the best one, or send out several different ones or a collage. So your photos would only be $169....plus all your fun trip memories included too. You may be able to find a Photopass photographer and some wandering characters willing to go to the castle? Or if you wanted it to be just you and finance, why not get a photopass photographer to take them.....yes, some are not so great photographers, but some are really experienced and do a wonderful job....you just have to search around and watch them take photos of other people to find the great ones, lol.
