Is there a site that offers advice to new collectors? Even though a pin is LE, does that mean its one I should pick up, or does this depend on the character, size, etc. PH pins limited to 7,500 seems like a lot of pins still to me, how valuable does they become in time? Any info would help, thanks!

Lanyard has Tink PH Pin, Hook Villiantines Pin, Grumpy Hockey and Build A Pin. On a PH Lanyard with LK 1 1/2 card on it. This is what I have so far... :D

A site to help new collectors.....This is it! ask any question you want and our panel of experts , and Ed, will answer.
If you buy every new LE pin as it comes out every day you will be bankrupt before the end of the month. Remember Disney issues pins at DL, WDW, DL Japan, DLRP, Disney Catalog, and the dreaded Disney e-bay and P.I.N.S. Then there are pins that are only available to CMs or AP holders, DVC members, etc. So there's no way you can get every pin as it comes out.
Stick to a theme and that alone will drive you nuts and to the poor house. There are certain characters and themes that are more popular than others. Tink is one of the popular characters. So is Stitch, Pooh and Friends, and Chip and Dale. Maleficent is a recent add-on. As far as ride pins, Haunted Mansion is the front-runner, with Pirates a close second.
Buy what you like, don't try to second guess the future value.

Welcome to our insane world.

While there are places you can go to get information (like here, we are mostly nice), it will take time to incorporate all the information into a system that works for you in knowing what to buy, what and when to trade, and how to store your keepers. The fun is in learning and growing. When I started, an LE of 7500 was a fairly good deal but now it would not really be considered a LE by most pin traders. Truly limited pins, are in the 500 range or even less. Still, sometimes a popular character can be valuable or tough to get even as a rack pin. A good example of this is the princess dangles which were rack pins but very hard to trade for. For traders, look for popular characters like Tink or Stitch. Ask lots of questions!

We dont really have a clue! :earseek:

Well, maybe we have half a clue. ;)

Pin collecting (and trading) is very subjective.

We often say here, "pin value is in the eye of the beholder."

When starting out, it is much easier to buy what you like. As you become more familiar with all the types of pins available, a lot of the other knowledge just sneaks up on you.

Have you looked at www.pinpics.com? Try using the search feature to get a feeling for the number of pins available for one of your favorite characters or themes.

And, as Dave and Joy have said....:teeth: .....feel free to bring your questions here. :earsgirl:

The only problem with buying what you like, is that you won't want to trade it away!! Just kidding! Well, only half kidding! When you buy a pin for a trader, common sense would tell you that if you like the pin, then if it ends up untradeable at least you have a pin you like--just make sure you don't buy a pin you like too much!

Predicting what pins will be good traders is an art, and I think it's gotten harder with the release of so many pins to predict what will be the next "hot" trader. Daber gave you good advice though in that Tink, Lilo & Stitch, Maleficent are usually pretty dependable. Donald Duck used to be solid, but I think now there are equally as many Goofy and Pluto collectors, so Donald isn't as much of a sure thing. Princesses are pretty constant too.

I also agree with Joy--an LE of 7500 would probably trade more like an open edition pin; I feel similarly about LE 5000. It used to be that LE 1000 pins were like gold, but now they are pretty common also.

Hope this helps a little--just keep asking and asking and asking; soon you'll be a pro!
