We are considering staying one night in the Nickelodeon Hotel during our spring break trip. We are DVC members and will be staying at the BCV for the week. Our two sons age 4 and 7 love Jimmy Nuetron. We have read many bad reports form this hotel and are wondering if it is worth our time and money to stay there. Our 7 year old is asthmatic and we are somewhat concerned about the posts about the moldy rooms.

Do you think we should stay here or pass on this hotel??

Thanks for the advice.

I almost booked us there too. We leave in Sept. Due to the posts (I have asthma) I steered clear. And they are way overpriced for a refurbished Holiday Inn. IMHO I'd rather spend the $300 + a night for the Hard Rock Hotel.

i still defend the place to the very end...have stayed there twice and it was great....i guess we get all the good luck...is it made for adults...yes..plenty to do bar, shopping is close...

and the kids will love it...the dive-in movie is great....evryone said it was awful before we went...and we went anyway...we love it and would stay there again ....

we've been there 3x and every time has been awesome. I'm sure the rate makes a difference on your expectations too. WE've never paid more than $140/night so maybe our expectations were less than those who have paid $300/night. All I know is the kids love it, and we like it too. We've always thought of as a holiday inn with a specialty theme and not a marriott or anything highend so maybe that makes a difference too. Try it and have fun!! We actually had a JImmy themed room and our boys loved it!!

We stayed there in June'07 and loved it. We had a rate of $129 a night and stayed 2 nights. I have mild asthma and my grandson (4) has severe asthma. we had no problems, saw no mold and I would stay again.

I have stayed there every year since the refurb for two days bvefore we would begin the WDW portion ofour trip and my youngest(DS 12) loves the place. My older kids (18, 19, and 25.) not so much..lol. The rooms are decent, and they are geared to kids. My youngest went to their Nick After Dark program last year and loved it as well and it gave Mom and the older kids time to run to the Swan and eat at Kimono's (DS12 hates sushi..lol). Unflrotunately it was cancelled this year and ynext year he will be too old so I tink we have seen the last of Nick..

The pools are wonderful for kids, but be aware that they close them whenever it looks like it will begin to lightening (which is at least once a day in Florida). The food is overpriced and not very good (Think: TV dinner quality food..and most fried). However, there are a lot of restaurants in the are that are reasonable and good (though we went to DTD and ate at Earl of Sandwich..LOVE that place!)

You can definitely find rooms for under $300..even if you book advace purchase onthe Nick site ($189 last I checked). I would suggest not paying $20 a night more for the Spongebob room...the only differnce is a few pictures of SB in the room Vs Jimmy Neutron, Rugrats, etc.

How does everyone else here find the room rates that are better than Nick's "Guranteed best available" anywhere rate? I never seen to do better. even on Prieceline, Travelocity, etc?

I think i'll start a new thread about this....:)

Travelzoo usually has some good specials on Nick Hotel.
We went for 3 days last fall and had a really good time. I didn't notice any mold issues at all.

Remember, people who have bad experiences are twice as motivated to post than people with good experiences.

We stayed here last year for 2 nights before checking into SSR, we're also DVC members. It wasn't bad, but we had the 129 a night deal and for that price it wasn't bad, but not great either. We're booked right now for 4 nights at 199 a night, looking for another option, thinking about a universal hotel for those 4 nights, then moving to WDW. The kids LOVED it, but mom and dad not so much. It was your basic Holiday Inn and wasn't very nice....

I just stayed at the Nick Hotel last Friday. (also DVC member)

Check-in was a nightmare. Very disorganized. The rooms were very nice. We stayed in a 2 bedroom ste w/ bunkbeds and had fairy oddparents. My kids loved it.

My biggest complaint (which isn't much) is you have to wait in line and Check-out.

The pool and waterslides were very nice. My kids wanted to stay longer.

*Marriott has purchased the Nick Hotel (as they are selling timeshares in the hotel now) I think she was telling me as of September 1st. I am not sure if there will be any changes but worth looking into.

We're doing EXACTLY the same thing (one night) at the Nick hotel before checking into AKV the next day. We're travelling in Jan, so I'll let you know how it goes afterwards.

Our kids are a bit younger (they'll be 5,3,1 at time of travel) and our "exposure" to the pool will be dependant on the fickle Florida weather in Jan.

But as long as they get to meet Dora and maybe Diego (at the character breakfast), the kids will enjoy it. We got a decent deal on a 2BR kidsuite ($169 a night, no prepay, 24 hour cancellation policy, which is key because we're driving down from CT) so, as long as the kids enjoy it, it'll be worth it as a one shot experience.

Ditto, we love this place!

We've been here in Orlando this whole week (staying at Vistana). Two days ago we stopped in at Nick to check it out. We were very impressed with the place (I have two kids ages 7 and 10). The theme of the hotel is so kid friendly that I don't know if it's even possible for a child not to have a great time there. The main pool area with the water slides looked like a blast. We asked one of the ladies at check in if it would be possible to see one of the rooms. Not only did she show us a room, she gave us a guided tour of the whole hotel. They were having some kind of show at the main pool, and it looked like a lot of fun. The smaller water slide (in the area furthest from the check in) Was closed due to some renovations. While we were there we saw the fairy odd parents taking pictures with a lot of the guests.
We were very impressed with the themeing of the hotel, the friendliesness and courtesy of all the staff we came in contact with, and the level of security and safety provided to young children (they have their own version of a code amber if any child gets seperated from his parents). About the only drawback we saw with this hotel was the fact that I doubt my kids would want to leave it to go anywhere else (even Disney).
The next time we are in the Orlando area this hotel will definately be at the top of our to stay list.

We were there last week, my kids loved it. I liked it to. Very close to some outlet malls and Disney. I agree with the kids not wanting to leave, which is why we went there before our cruise instead of a park week!!!

Really, my 5,6,7 & 9 girls LOVED it. The only thing I didn't like about the room was the placement of the bathroom!

Have fun!!

We stayed there a couple of years ago and it stunk. I wouldn't pay the outrageous rack rates they want. I you can get a good rate (we paid $75 per night, they were still honoring Entertainment Book then) try it, but we were REALLY unimpressed and I wouldn't consider going back there. The worst part was their slide pool where the lifeguard told my 6 year old she could go down the slide, into the DEEP pool, and she almost drowned. There I am, waiting on the play pad side (the slides all go up one ladder and then break off into three different slides) and I see her go flying down the other side! Thank goodness the lifeguard was right there, she got her out before I could reach her, it was very scary for all of us. This was the first day the whole new pool was opened, so maybe they have worked the kinks out alittle bit. A new experience for us all! So explain to your kids (if they don't swim yet), Don't go down the big slide without checking with me first!!! Good luck!

We are hoping to do a Nick- can a family of 5 be in one room or do you need to do 2?

How is the bus transportation to WDW and Universal? My DS really wants to stay here on our next trip but we're used to the Disney buses and I wondered how the buses worked and if it's worth it. Thanks. :)

It's not a place to stay for a week IMO, but it's way cool for the kids for a day or 3. If your not impressed with the place as an adult well.................. duh it's not about you........ the place is for the kids.

As for the mold, it's freakin Florida people, I don't care how up scale of a place you go in a hot humid climate you're going to find mold.

We have stayed for 2 days a few times while on other trips, we love the place. I'ts free for us (I'm a priority club member) so I can't complain about cost.

We found the transportation to the parks via the buses adequate, but I don't like to schedule my time around bus stops so we get a car.

Last trip I heard my 8 YO say "Dad! This is the greatest place ever. What more can you ask for :).

Has anyone stayed here in December? I am considering this for one night in the beginning of the month, but will it be warm enough to swim? It seems that would be the big draw for my kids and I really don't want to hear the whining if it is too cold. Thanks
