We just purchased AKV 200pts yesterday. I am not as happy as I should be (we've been tossing it around for a few years now)I think my problem is that we stayed at AK and loved it but hated the long bus rides then SSR seemed good but sept was an awful use year (we always travel in the summer)plus the dues were cheaper...since we just started the process yesterday do I have any options to change my mind, or change the resort or cancel or get a different use year! I'm very confused and not so settled. Please help any input from you all who are experienced will help! This is not a small purchase and I want to make sure it's the right decision.:sad1:

I think you have 3 days to recind the contract once you have signed the paperwork. I would call your guide back and tell them to hold or cancel the purchase until you are sure. It's a finacial transaction that you must feel comfortable with. Don't worry about how your guide will feel.

You don't have to do anything if you have not signed the papers yet. Technically you can buy at any resort thru resale or even Disney. You won't get incentives but you need to be happy. Each resort has their own pluses and minuses and for me personally I go back and forth all the time on which resort would be best for our situation. Bottom line is we love Disney and DVC was a good situation for us, we own at SSR because at the time best deal (and lowest dues) then we also added on to OKW for the "bang for buck" of points and room size. I will take my chances at 7 month mark for other resorts as we got BWV stay coming up in a few weeks. If we decide we need 11 month mark at other resorts we will add on. Our goal is to slowly add on points anyway as we love the versatility of DVC for OUR NEEDS.

It is not cheap so if you don't feel right about it don't do it you need to make sure it is right for your family. There are plenty of topics on the boards about this issue. Good luck to you on your decision.

Thank you both very much...talking with my husband and 2 kids, they really want AKV because you can do the concierge and the new little (big) water area they can use. We will always travel June, July ,or August and once in a while on holidays since my DH teaches and I'm an aide at school also. People tend to scare me when they say they can't book where they want at the 7 mos mark. My feeling is we would love to try them all so I guess we can book the home and try for others or waitlist (not sure on how all that works). Are the summer months easier to book and the holidays harder? My guide said SSR is wide open for july and august now to use our 200 developer points.

I can only speak to my own experiences, and I can tell you that we've stayed almost everywhere and have encountered very few problems with availability along the way -- at 11 months out, 7 months out, and sometimes even 2 or 3 months out.

Our home resort is SSR, and we've stayed there once. We very much want to experience all the resorts, so we've also stayed at BWV and BCV (booking 7 months out) and this December we will be at AKV (we added on at AKV to have the 11 month booking window for December). And just 3 weeks ago we decided to use some developers points to stay at SSR in June.

We have been somewhat flexible with our plans -- if we really want a resort and it's not available for one week, we check a different week. If we can't be flexible with our dates, we sometimes take a different resort. We love them all for different reasons and look at each one as an opportunity to have a different kind of experience. But often we get exactly what we want, when we want.

Obviously, some times are more in demand than others (early December, holidays, etc.) and we know that those times will take 11 month planning (or lowered expectations for availability). But as long as you know the system, you should have very few problems.

I hope you get some peace about your decision! It's a big one, but for us, the best one we've ever made! We love our DVC.

Considering your travel plans, I would ask for a June Use Year.

Hi, I don't really have any advice, but just wanted to say I know how you feel. We just bought 200 points at AK (sent the papers in last week). I went back and forth so many times trying to decide what to do - we just finally decided to take the plunge. I have been to Disney many times, but never even visited a DVC villa. Still, I have no qualms about how nice they are and look forward to being able to spread out a bit. We are also limited to accommodations because we have a family of 5. We are going to SSR with our developer points in November and can't wait to plan the trip after that to AK! I too, look forward to visiting and staying at all of the resorts but would probably be happy at any of them. As far as our family is concerned we love Disney and this can only make our love grow!:cool1:

IMHO this is the WRONG reason to buy AKV. There are only 10 2 bedroom lockoffs. Read the outcry on these boards when the MS computers went down and see how many "lost" thier Concerige rooms when they were not able to book IMMEDIATLY upon opening.

I think this was big error on DVC's side but buying expecting to get this is a HUGE risk.

I own AKV. I own because I LOVE looking out my window and seeing ANIMALS!!! It's just too cool! But the concerige is not a good reason IMHO!

I think this is excellent advice!!!

I would further ask the question... "what is my 2nd most popular time to travel?". If the answer is fall or Christmas... then certainly stick with June. If the answer is spring break... then get a Feb or Mar use year. Any of those choices (Feb/Mar/June) will give you good banking choices if you need to cancel your summer plans at the last minute.

Thank you all...the akv concierge was a very small bonus to be able to do once in awhile( if available) after great debates today in our home and all your advice I'm feeling much better! We all decided we want to try them all! Since we are very flexible we have 9 weeks to choose from June July and August. I'm very excited about that. Our big reason was where would we want to be if there was nothing else available and the vote was 3 to 1 AKV. I'm very happy for the boards you are all so knowledgeable. I'm much more excited now ....we have already booked SSR for July 25(THIS YEAR) for 10 days in a studio. That was great and pretty painless. Now onto all the other things .... where and how much is it for laundry and grocery delivery but thats for another time.:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
Oh and by the way we got a the June use year and had to bank 2008 points so for June 09 we have 400 points wow where can we go with all of that???

Laundry is free, they are coin operated but they have them set up so you don't have to put in the coins - or course I found this out after we were at the studios:mad: Various grocery options and just do a search for garden grocer or web go shop (or something like that).

400 pts!!!!!!!! well you will only have to use the banked and stay ahead of the game for a longer trip, bigger accommodations or even better.....MORE trips:banana: Congrats and I'm happy to see that you are feeling better about your choice. These boards have tons of info and I always research here before calling MS.

if you are feeling any remorse cancel and don't worry about it.

DVC is not for everyone and every resort is not a fit and I would worry about booking at 7 months because as DVC becomes larger and larger, it could definitely be a problem at times, at certain locations.

I would suggest you think about it some more, possibly spend some time staying at other locations and see what is the best fit and even possibly buy a small contract through resale.

Booking at 7 months is easier during the summer months, because while that is peak Park time, it is not peak DVC time. Points are higher then, than other times of the year and many DVCers hate the hot weather and long lines. So Yes, at 7 months if you call that week of your 7 month window you chances are very good to get something, during the summer.

Did you bank the 2008 points or the 2007 points? I would think that it is the 2207 since you haven't received your '08 points yet. Anyways, back to your question. I would look at either taking an extended trip or splurge on larger accomodations. You also could invite some family members to join you. Also, you only need to use the banked points. So let's say you come up with a plan that uses 250 points. Then take your 200 banked points and 50 from your current UY. Then bank the remaining 150 points into the next year.

That's a really good question. If you bought through Dis, I bet you're getting '07 points that were technically deposited into your account last June. If those are the points you banked, that means you will have 200 points to use between June 1, 2008 and May 31, 2009. You'll have new points deposited this June 1 that will be good during the same time, or, you can bank those points by January 31, 2009 and they will become available again on June 1, 2009.

Would hate for you to lose points!!! :scared1: To me, that's the worst thing that could happen!!! I've always wondered how many people have lost points before?

Congratuations on your purchase, and WELCOME HOME!!! party:

Oh my I don't know MS said to call back as soon as we recieve our final paperwork and bank the points...to be honest buying AKV we got 200 developer points and I thought we were only suppose to get 08 points. Guide said Kindani isn't built so we need to bank our 08 points and no MF til may 09....maybe she thought we bought SSR (but isn't on her screen what we own):confused3 Wow lots of info in one day ---I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am to found you all!!!
:grouphug: Thank you all

OK, now I understand. You have Kidani points and those points can't be used until your unit opens. So, the current information that we have is that the rooms in Kidani won't open until May. So, you won't have time to use your '08 points.

If they got the same deal I got last week, they got 160 points that CAN be used this year but ONLY at SSR and CANNOT be banked. They are STILL accumulating Kidani Village points beginning in June of THIS year and will have 160 available there IMMEDIATELY next June (09) at which time they will receive ANOTHER 160 @ Kidani. No fees until May 09.

I verified that I had understood all this correctly with my guide on the phone Friday night. I'm dead-sure I'm right on mine (purchased 4-23) and if they did theirs last week, I'd bet they got the same deal I got. I know several people that did. :)

That is exactly what I got too.
Dumb question though - We signed all the paperwork and sent back last week.
But, I neglected to make copies of anything. Will I get copies of my paperwork in the mail? I'd hate to not have copies of what I signed.

Did you get that big box from FedEX? If so , inside should have been copies of everything you signed. There was a seperate blue folder in ours for the papers to be sent back to DVC, then two other packs - one yellow with info about owning and another bigger thing with a book in it with all the resorts and various other info as well as the copies. That is what we got. We also got a DVC tote bag.
