Well, after going for 3 yrs with family, I want to be able to book a possible wdw trip in Oct. 2007 for us.. But, i know nothing about it. I have always had my inlaws book everything for us. I see it is not letting me get 2007 rates online yet.. And i have heard those won't be out til Sept. ( I know i can call and book) but, i have some questions..

1. If you book a room only reservation, how much of a deposit is required at booking?

2. Following that, when is the balance due?

3. If you go with a package, how much is due at booking? Is there a difference?

4. If you book a room only, then want to "upgrade" your reservation to be a package, can you do that?

Thanks so much, and sorry for being so behind on this!!!

Right now you can call and book what they are calling the "basic" package. Since the package rates aren't out you book the room right now and just put a $200 deposit down as if the package rates were. Otherwise room only reservations require 1st night room and tax at the time of making the reservation. HTH

First things first. CALL! Don't book online, it is an agency and not booking direct with Disney. Booking online has much less appealing features like paying all upfront and a 30 day before check in cancellation. Calling 407-wdisney is hands down the way to go. Unless things have changed you pay for the first night up front and have a 2 day before check in cancellation window. Additionally, they can answer all of these questions for you! And if there is a snag, like no vacancy, they can readily help you with all the options.

So provided you call: 1)you pay the first nights rate as deposit. 2)You pay the balance when you check out. 3) havent booked a package, I dont know the answer to that one, but my guess is that its the same as room only booking. 4)yes you can upgrade in anyway at anytime.

This is false information.
If you use Disney's online booking engine it is direct with Disney. You can call Disney to make changes and payments and such.
If you book a package it's $200 down and final due 45 days prior trip.

Call Disney and book basic package for 2007, when Disney announces the package components and rates for 2007 just call them again a modify it.

Sorry, Plutolovr, but booking online is not booking directly with Disney. If it weren't obvious enough with the payment differences and the fact that one might have rooms at a given place while another doesn't, I learned this for an absolute fact when we got burned by the website booking.

Stacy what payment differences are you referring to? I've made reservations online and on the phone. Either way the desposit for a package is 200 and for a room only the deposit is one night.

Let me see if I can help out a little. If you book a room only reservation you will be charged one night plus tax for your deposit and there is a 5 day cancellation policy, in other words as long as you cancel 5 days before your travel dates, you will get a full refund. If you book a package, there charge is $200 with a 45 day cancellation policy. You can convert a room only to a package, but Disney will refund your deposit and will make you a new reservation and will charge you the $200 - they cannot apply what you paid for the room only to the new package, they must refund you.

As far as booking online at the WDW website, it is booking directly with Disney however, you would not be able to make payments on your room only reservation. The only way you can make payments is if you book over the phone. Many folks prefer this route so that they can pay their trip off in advance. Hope that helps a little.

I am a TA and have recently booked my own Disney reservation online (BTW you are booking directly with Disney, Walt Disney Travel Company) and as far as making payments I'm able to pull up my reservation number and make payments. I would think this would apply to those who book through me (or any TA) that they (client) could make payments through me. Seasoned TA chime in if this isn't correct, but I pulled my reservation up and pushed make a payment and the option was pay for the whole package or make a payment (min. $20).

I'm sorry, it is 2006 package. I was just making a comment on being able to make payments even if you don't call. :) So yes if you want to book a 2007 package right now you need to call.

Disney must have assumed control of the website at some point in the recent past then, because a few years ago (OMG was it 5?) I booked online had to pay it all upfront and when there was a problem and I canlled Disney they gave me a number to call for the travel agency that handled the website.

I'd still call.
