i am having such a dilema that i thought maybe i'm not the only one. my dd, who just turned 6, wears a size 12. well, she loves playing dress up and being a princess. i can't find anything online to buy. i have been searching amazon and ebay for weeks and weeks. i have looked at dress up sites online. i am hoping that when we do BBB she will be able to purchase a dress to go with the boutique. if anyone knows of anyplace that sells larger children's costumes, please post here for me. if anyone has any costumes that children have outgrown, i'd definatly purchase used. we have 5 1/2 months and i want this to be a magical trip. she can't help that her dad is 6'5. if only she took after little 5'3 me.

Have you thought of buying an adult dress and if it's too large, getting it tailored? There are plenty of adult princess dresses around. Also you might be able to get one custom made... on ebay I know there are people who make the dresses.. I'm sure you could find one willing to make a larger dress... might be slightly more expensive, but at least your princess: could dress like one.

There's no nice way to ask this, soooo-- is she tall, a bit chunky, or both?? If she's just really tall is there any way that a smaller size would work but with bloomers or something? My kids are on the smaller size so I'm really no help. The other thing would be to try to find a pattern, which may be easier closer to Halloween, but you might find one now. Get a pattern either online or at a craft store. If you're not handy with sewing, find someone who is and have one made. It might not be too economical if you have to pay someone to do it but every little girl should get to be a princess :goodvibes

Good luck!

she is 4'3 and 80 lbs, so she is an extremly solid girl, but evenly distributed weight. i think she is going to be the first woman in the nfl. i am going to go on to all the websites to see what i can find. i have a friend who can do simple sewing, so i do have an alice in wonderland dress. i am sooo hoping to get a jasmine, as that is her favorite princess. well, the hunt continues. thanks for all the advice.

Sounds like your daughter is about the same size as my 7 year old. We're having a dilemma right now trying to find a flower girl dress.

When we went to WDW 2 years ago, DD7 was 5 and was able to fit into a 7-10 halloween costume, but DD10, who was 8, couldn't fit into anything. I got a pattern from Walmart and made her a Cinderella costume. I'm no whiz at sewing, but it turned out pretty decent, and it only cost a few dollars to make. I bought her a Cinderella crown at Big Lots. I haven't managed to get my pics on here yet, I'll try to post a link to a pic of the dress. Hope it works!

Sorry, it didn't work. I'll have to get to work on getting our pics moved over to this site!

in a few weeks Halloween costumes will be coming out and you should be able to find some small adult or larger child costumes that will work.

If she only wants them for dress up, have you tried Goodwill for some prom/bridesmaid dresses. We did this for our DD when she was about that age and it really worked out well! Many of the short cocktail dresses worked out to be full lenght for her and they were very princess like!

OK, I at least figured out how to post a link to the pic. I could read the tech boards all day and I still don't get it!

I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but my mom does custom sewing for people, and has quite a bit of experience making Disney costumes for my girls. She doesn't charge a fortune either. If you're interested, PM me, and I'll give you her email.

I googled disney costume and found anniescostumes.com right away. They have all the princesses and tink in 10-12

wow, i am so impressed with all the great advice i got from here. there were some great stores on ebay, the dresses just have to be purchased one at a time. we will be in the parks for 7 days...i now have dresses for 3 of those days...woo-hoo. tinkerbell was soooo cute, but i can't imagine those wings on all the rides. i am waiting for my daughter to look at all the pics of the dresses before she d ecides which she truly wants to have. i love the idea of goodwill for dress up clothes for around the house!!

My daughter is 6 and built the same way. SHe wears a size 10 and we have been having a hard time finding costumes for her. Especially since she wants to be Ariel in her wedding gown for MNSSHP. UGH! I went to a dress shop and bought her a flower girl dress on clearance and we were going to add to that but I found a pattern on ebay for Ariel's wedding gown. Now I just have to get it made! Its a long process but hang in there you'll find them! :thumbsup2

I can certainly relate! LOL Our oldest DD is 7 (turning 8 in October) and has always been a very tall and solid (but not fat LOL) girl. Last year, we bought her an Ariel costume in a 10/12 at the Disney Store and just a few weeks ago we also bought her another 10/12 costume again at the Disney Store...this time the golden Sleeping Beauty dress. I still need her to try it on though. I am really hoping it will fit her because I don't think they carry anything larger in the Disney Stores. We bought this one because it was on sale for 1/2 price and hoped it would fit.

I had already told her that we might not be able to get her a Disney Princess gown this trip because she is just too hard to fit anymore. She sort of understood but still, she is only 7 and I felt bad. Especially, since her 1 year old sister is her complete opposite and such a petite little thing and had just gotten a new Belle dress.

I think I have read here on the Disboards though that at WDW, you might find size 14/16 Princess Dresses. I'm positive though. My other thought if the Gold Princess dress doesn't fit, maybe see if the Flower Girl dress she wore last Summer would work too. maybe you can find a frilly dress and spruce it up like one of the princesses? HTH

update....ebay was a wonderful success! i bid on and won the jasmine dress. i am so excited that she can now wear her favorite princess. we have decided on pocahontas and aurora for sure. we already have mulan, jasmine, alice in wonderland (being made) and susan pevensie (being made) i saw such a cute cinderella as the maid on ebay, but she didn't want to be that version of a princess. i am pretty sure the last dress will be belle, that is unless we can find anastasia....was that even disney? i can't even remember right now.
