As a family we are not big dessert eaters but we do like an appetizer with our dinner. Not having done DDP before does anyone know if we can swap our dessert for appetizers ??

No its not possible unfortunately, the deal is entree & dessert. Something that puts people off paying for DDP, not so bad when its free you can just buy a few appetizers.

That's a big no i'm afraid.

I remember asking the same question 2 years ago and the same response was given.

I personally would rather have the option of 1 or the other and pay the difference.

i.e. If the most expensive dessert was $5.00 but the starter you wanted was $7.00 they should charge you the extra $2.00.

That of course would be in an ideal world and i'm afraid it isn't.

In fact on the DDP I specifically chose the restaurants to eat at firstly by the dessert and then then main!

Thanks for the answers. I guess you're right Wayne, as it's free, paying for the appetizers isn't so bad

I half expected having to buy some last year, thinking I would be hungry with just the 2 courses, in the end we never bought 1 appetizer but if you are not a dessert fan you might have to.

Knowing the meals at WDW I'm not worried about the feeling hungry it's just that neither Paul or I ever have desserts and the boys rarely do either as they would prefer to let their meal digest and then get a funnel cake or ice cream later on

I'm very much like that - always been a savoury person so will get a starter and a main rather than a main and a dessert!

Will give some of the desserts a go tho this year :)

All restaurants will do dessert to go if you would rather do that, probably not practical with all desserts but many like cheescake, fruit etc they will put in a box for you. We did with DS's at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

We ate our fruit there but DS's cheesecake in a box :goodvibes

I have always thought they have made it just a dessert is because people are more likely not to take the dessert at the end of the meal or take it to go because they are full therefore clearing the table quicker. Having a starter makes the meal longer.

the other thing with desserts is that most of them are ready to serve. with most starters they need to be cooked. :)

ive heard some restaurants will let you have a starter instead of a desert-but this is very rare. never hurts to ask though does it. others may let you take an extra drink with you.
im not a dessert person so my husband is looking forward to having what i dont want.;)
