Hi :wave2:

We're thinking about coming over to CA next April staying in SF for a few days and then travelling down to LA. Where would be the best place to stay? Anaheim or Buena Park? And what are the crowds likely to be like around April 12th to 18th??? Oh, and just one more question what will the weather be like?

Many thanks
Jen

For convenience, pick Anaheim. Even if you're planning on a day at Knott's, you'll be spending more time at DL. While the drive between the two isn't long or difficult, it would still be easier to be in Anaheim. I don't know about the crowds, but mid-April is usually crowded, especially if it's close to Easter (I don't know when Easter is next year). It's also hard to say what the weather will be like. April is usually nice, but this last one was cold and rainy.

Is there any way you could come in May instead of April? The crowds die down after Easter/Spring Break and don't pick up again completely until June, so May is a good time (in our experience at least). The weather is unpredictable, but should be somewhere in the '70s. Last May it was mid to high '80s, but that is unusual. There is a website that shows a graph of attendance by the time of year - maybe someone else knows the link? Sorry that I don't. It was in a post sometime in the last few weeks.

Hope that helps a little!

Easter falls on April 8th, 2007 so technically you will be going during Easter Week. It might be pretty busy.

Here's the link:

But, that graph doesn't take into consideration the actual holiday weeks (President's Day, Easter). It'll be even busier on those particular weeks.

We decided to go the first week of March to keep our distance form both those holidays, and to hopefully avoid the Spring Breaks.

You should be used to that coming from the UK :teeth:

Are you planning to drive down from SF to LA? It has wonderful scenery down highway 1. If you go to someone like Trailfinders they can put a package together for you to include car hire and all hotels (including in SF and Anaheim) and it can be tremendous value. We did this last year and had a fantastic time - got a great rate to stay at Anaheim Hilton included.

This will be our 3rd trip to Anaheim, but we have never been in April. We have been in November and August and this time will be July. November the weather was warm enough for shorts and t-shirts but as soon as the sun went down, we had to go and put trousers, a sweatshirt and a fleece on.
The Radisson Maingate is a nice hotel as is the Hyatt Regency Orange County and both have shuttles to the parks, (though the radisson is within walking distance).
This year we are staying at the Sheraton Park (formerly the Coast) as it will just have finished its refurbishment and they have balconies overlooking the parks which will be great for watching the fireworks. The Sheraton Park is opposite the Radisson and there are shops and restaurants close by.

Cheers everyone...... :)

We have 2 DDs, next year will be 13 and 11 so are stuck to the school hols, so we thought about Easter or end of August. Have already checked out Orlando prices and for next year they are astronomical, so we are considering California instead.

We are hoping to go to SF first and then drive down the scenic route to LA taking a couple of stops on the way. How many days should we have in LA to do the main parks?

Thanks for your help  .......Jen

We are going back in August for the fourth time to Anaheim. We have always stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Garden Grove which is right on Harbor Blvd.
We would not stay anywhere else, it's convenient for Disneyland, the rooms are comfortable and spacious and the best bit, the staff are wonderful and we feel sad saying goodbye to them at the end of a stay.
Really I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.Feel free to e-mail me if you have any specific questions..........roll on August!!

Hi Jen,
there are only 2 parks to do and you can do them both comfortably in about 4 days. At a guess, I would say your daughters will probably prefer California Adventure as it has the roller coaster (amongst other rides) that seem to be a hit with teenagers.
Just ask if you need to know anything else.
Love Ella
