I am thinking about driving to WDW this time instead of flying however I have no idea on how long I should plan to spend on driving and how to get there. I am in Abilene which is off of I20 in west texas. I am about 2 1/2 hours west of DFW. There will be 2 drivers and a 5 year old. Our actual WDW trip is booked sept 30-oct 7 ( saturday to saturday ). Any help or advise would be appreciated. Also, as far as flying I always just check rates from DFW. Are there any other aiports that I should be checking? I did just realize Southwest from Austin may not be bad but my dates aren't out yet.

Thanks!!

I think the 5 year old would have a hard time with a drive like that. But, That's just my advise. We always fly so I don't know much about the drive. Have you tried Love Field in Dallas? Southwest flys from there. But, as you stated the dates probably aren't out yet. Whatever you decide the 5 year old will have a blast at Disney. Enjoy your trip. :thumbsup2

We used to live in Austin but drove up to Dallas once because I got flights on American for $130.00 a piece. I'd keep looking as I know that the trip was a 16 hour drive to Orlando from Austin and that is a LONG time for a little one. Trust me. I was :scared: by the end of it.

:) Thanks for the replys. :guilty: Unfortunately due to the Wright Ammendment Southwest can not fly to orlando from Love Field. They can only fly to very few neighboring states. I am waiting on a Airtran sale!

You are about 2 hours west of me and we can do it in about 19 hours. We are driving to Tallahassee and then getting up and heading straight to WDW the second day. We had originally planned to drive straight through but chickened out and decided to stop and sleep so our first day in Disney wouldn't be shot from us all being exhausted.

Hey there! We have made the drive twice in the last 10 years. Each time we have driven, we swore we would not do it again. It takes us about 18-20 hours depending on stops, etc.

I think you would be much better off flying from DFW. We have flown airtran the last couple of times and have found their rates very affordable even with the higher gas prices. Good luck with your decision :)
