We have a trip planned for October 14-20th. Originally it was DH, DD and me. I was going to drive. DH is paraplegic and in too much pain to go. So now just DD (7) and me. Tickets are almost $500 per from Indy, Cincy or Louisville. I just can do that. Anyone have any suggestions how to get cheaper airfare?

Thanks!

Are you checking all the airlines? American has a flight for $291.70 from Cincinnati to Orlando on those dates. I just pulled it off Travelocity.

Since you were willing to go to Indy or Cincinnati have you considered going to Columbus and flying on Southwest. Also you can each check 2 bags for free. They offer non stop as well.

also check yapta and kayak sites for your dates they find a lot of deals

SWA out of Columbus is $400 (FREE BAGS) Cinncinati is $370 RT. Better than the $500 OP was finding (apparently that $290 fare is long gone:confused3)
2 weeks prior to departure you probably aren't going to get better fares than that.
And honestly I have had to take the tough sticker shock pill for airfare the last few months...We are accustomed to keeping our eyes & ears open & have rarely paid more than $250RT for years anywhere...now it seems $350-375 is pretty standard. I have found SWA on sale for $300RT but those sales are few & far between anymore. I think we are just going to have to buck up on air anymore.
I remember buying a ticket 10 days out 20 years ago & it was $475--I was sick. But when I consider what I make now...and what I have been paying for flights for a lot of years, it seems like maybe flight prices are catching up to where they should be (like gas).
Now if we could only get college tuition to get DOWN to where it should be...

So I found a flight on Allegiant from Owensboro, Ky to Sanford airport for a total of $367.20 for both of us roundtrip including one checked bag. Not ideal since I have to drive 200 miles each way to Ky and have to find a way to Orlando from the Sanford airport. Yet it beats paying double. And we have to cancel Chef Mickeys on our return day. Thanks to everyone for helping.

Did you check Airtran out of Dayton? There is non-stop for $347.60 (DAY to MCO) or less if you are willing to make some stops.

Good luck!
