Hi Everyone!
I am new here and was hoping i could get some advice. I am taking my family to disney in less than 3 weeks for the first time. I haven't been in almost 20 years so it feels like my first time too :)
Here is my question. We have 5 park days and we will be there for the opening weekend of star wars weekends. My kids DS (6) and DD (4) are pretty big fans of star wars so we thought it would be great. When i heard about the character breakfasts I wasn't able to get in on the weekend but i did get a breakfast for the Monday. So in order to take advantage of Star Wars weekends and go to our breakfast we would have to go to HS on Saturday and Monday taking up 2 of our park days which I am starting to think is a waste. Would get more out of our trip by repeating MK and skipping HS on Saturday? Or are Star Wars Weekends worth the extra day?
Thanks in advance!

The Monday at DHS will have no SWW to it, so you could do MK that day and DHS on Saturday.

and skip the star wars character breakfast on Monday? is there enough to do at HS for 2 days? If we aren't standing in super long lines for characters...
Maybe I will see if we can change the ticket for the day to a park hopper?

I'm not completely up to speed on the changes to SWW this year, but are non-weekend character breakfasts going to have SW characters? I assumed they were confined to Friday to Sunday.

ETA: Poked around further and it appears you are right. I will have to defer to others opinions then. :goodvibes

Park hopper is an all or nothing option. It is a flat fee per person regardless of how often you use it.

The SW characters at SciFi will be: Vader, Boba Fett, Greedo, Jawas, and Stormtroopers. If you wanted your kids to see Jedi Mickey and Leia Minnie, you will have to go to DHS on Saturday. Lines will be long and the park will be crowded, but, it will be the only day you can see the parade and the SWW fireworks as well as purchase SWW logo merchandise.

Check the first post in this thread:SWW Official Thread

I heard if you go to the park with a regular ticket and want to go to a different park, you can pay the extra fee to change it to a park hopper for that day. Is that true? Because at this point I would have to just purchase a 6th ticket as a park hopper and not use a regular one which is considerably more money

Yes and no. You will change it to a park hopper for that day. You will also change it to a park hopper for all other days, at the all other days price. You can only purchase park hopper for all or none of your days.

I may not be up on SW character breakfasts, but this I do know. ;)

That's not great... Thanks for your help though. I'm thinking we will go to HS both days then

I'm not sure exactly what you meant, but you cannot purchase a 6th day and use it to park hop (i.e. you can't start at HS for your 5th park day and then use your 6th day to hop to MK). Unless you have the park hopper option, it is 1 day = 1 park.

But couldn't I use my new park hopper tickets for a day and not use one of my regular tickets?

To upgrade to Parkhoppers you will pay one set amount that upgrades all your ticket entitlements to Parkhopper status. It's cheaper than buying a separate ticket.

If you buy completely new tickets--which will be relatively expensive--you can make those park-hopper only.

But I suspect you're considering purchasing extra days (and adding them to existing tickets), which is cheap. However, you cannot have a mix of park-hopper and non-park-hopper days on the same ticket. You can add park-hopper to multiday tickets, but it applies to all days, and costs the same no matter how many days on the ticket.

Does that help clear things up?

In my opinion you probably won't want to be in HS for two days with it being a first trip. Maybe you'll need an extra half day if a lot of the focus is on the star wars stuff but if your there from open to close i think you will fit in everything you want to and you will probably want to be in magic kingdom more then just one day. What i would do is keep your tickets the way they are right now. On saturday if you feel like you got enough out of SWW and don't even need the breakfast cancel it that night then you won't get charged the fee. If you want to go back for the breakfast then I would add the park hopper to it at a ticket booth its the same fee no matter what day you add it… when are you doing DAK though? Im not sure what your itinerary is but usually that isn't a full day park for most people and say your going there sunday then you can add the park hopper then and hop to another park at night and then park hop after breakfast on monday too. Just a few options!

Thank you mesaboy that does clarify.
Thank you, minniegirl, that's exactly what I was wondering. Think we will take your advice and see how Saturday goes.
