Hi Everyone

I am hoping someone will be able to give me some advice, we are going to DLP 8th November for 4 nights there will be me, my husband out 7 yr old, my mam and my niece whos 17, my aunt and her granddaughter whos 6.
My niece has arthiritus, lupus, add, and is currently on chemo injections for the lupus, she will be in a wheel chair sometimes probably towards the end of the day as she hates being in it and tries to manage as much as possible but the arthritus will eventually get to her.

My sister has getting a letter from the doctors confirming everything that she has. Where do I take this letter to? and will i need to take her blue badge aswel as thats got her photo on?

I dont even know what access help we would get as wev never used it before, she will want to go on some rides but not many and it was for dreams as she will be in the wheel chair by this point?
Could anyone help me please?

Thanks Kelly x

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be around shortly, but here's from my experience:

The letter from the doctor was enough to get mine. But if you have a blue badge I'd bring it, you can never have enough paperwork. ;)

You take the letter to City Hall, unless you have an AP. Then you can go straight to the AP office with it. When you get your pass they will give you a booklet on where to enter for rides etc.

For Dreams they have roped off an area in the center of the Hub.

One warning though: my pass says I can take four people with me. For Dreams from what I got they are even limiting more than that. With your group being rather large I am not sure if you could all go through together.

We went in the summer with our son who uses a wheelchair.

We got our disabled access card with the Blue Badge, we didn't need anything else. The special needs section of the official Disney website (or whatever it's called) will confirm what documentation they will accept.

Take your Blue Badge or whatever to City Hall (on the left in the open area after you go under the Main Street railroad station - just as you get into Disneyland Park) and they will give you your card.

You will probably only be allowed four other people with your neice on rides with the card. She won't always get straight onto rides but the wait is usually much less than the regular queue.

It sounds as if your neice will be able to get herself into and out of ride vehicles but be aware that if she can't the CMs won't do any lifting of her, someone in her party would have to do it.

There are special viewing areas for diasbled card holders to view the parades and Dreams (two different areas). The policy is that there should only allow one other person into these areas with the cardholder. However when we were there they allowed all four of us is each time.

Beware that even in the roped off disabled viewing area, you may have to be a bit sharp elbowed to get your neice a good view. When we watched Dreams (which is fabulous!) we had to be a little bit forceful to get our son to the front without people standing up in front of him in his chair.

I can understand your neice being reluctant to use her wheelchair. However I've read that an average day at DLP involves walking about 6 - 8 miles, certainly when we were there there is a lot of walking! So she may find she has to use the chair more than she would like, so you may want to make her aware of that beforehand.

Overall we found DLP and the CMs to be very helpful to us, hopefully you will all have a great time :thumbsup2

This is actually VERY good news for me. I had knee surgery due to arthritus and it's helped somewhat...but I have it also in my feet. I plan to get Cortizone shots right before we leave...but I am fairly certain, at the end of the trip, I'll end up in a wheelchair :worried: My doctor diagnosed me with Rheumatoid Arthritus 2 years ago and it's progressed from my knees to my feet...this was the ONE thing I as worried about and now...I'm not. Great post! :wave2:
